About The Position

This job posting is for a Sessional Lecturer position for the course CHI103H5F Introductory Chinese I. The course is designed for students with little to no prior knowledge of Mandarin or any Chinese dialects. It focuses on the phonetics and written form of Modern Standard Chinese (Mandarin) and covers beginner-level functional Chinese. The estimated enrollment is 35 students with no TA support. There are two positions available, each with specific class schedules: Section 0101 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm, and Section 0201 on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. The mode of instruction is expected to be in-person, but this may change with advance notice. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1, 2026, to December 31, 2026.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chinese language pedagogy, literature, linguistics, or a related field
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of second language acquisition or Chinese linguistics
  • Experience teaching university-level Chinese language courses
  • (Near-)native fluency in Mandarin Chinese

  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.

Responsibilities
