About The Position

This seminar course offers a critical examination of modern Chinese literature. The primary focus will be on representative works of poetry, prose, drama, and fiction. Discussions will emphasize historical, cultural, and social-political contexts. Emphasis will be placed on building writing skills in literary criticism and analyzing literary devices and themes. The mode of instruction for this course is expected to be in-person.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Chinese literature, Asian studies, or a related field is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the area of Chinese literature and experience teaching university-level Chinese language or literature courses are required.
  • (Near-)native fluency in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese is required.
  • Cover letter (this should specify the way in which the applicant’s background and experience give them mastery of the topic)

  • Most recent course evaluations (if any)

Nice To Haves

  • Demonstrated excellence in teaching this course, or a similar course at the university level, is preferred.
  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II and Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12.
