Woodsworth College is committed to promoting accessibility and equity, and its core mission is to provide "the best educational experience for a diverse student body." The Millie Rotman Shime Academic Bridging Program is an access program offered by Woodsworth College that provides opportunity for students who do not meet the academic requirements for admission to the University of Toronto to qualify for admission to an Honours Bachelor of Arts (HBA) or Honours Bachelor of Science (HBSc) degree program in the Faculty of Arts & Science. The program is designed for mature learners, and bridges the gap between prior formal education and the skills necessary for first-year university courses. As a low-barrier program for learners who have been away from studies for two or more years, classes are rich with diversity and life experience. This course covers the fundamental knowledge and skills needed for success in First Year university Chemistry and other Sciences such as Biology. Topics include atoms, elements, and compounds; the chemical and physical properties of gases, liquids, and solids; chemical reactions; and the importance of chemistry in understanding the world around us, with attention to how it can address issues in medicine, the environment, and sustainability. Estimated course enrolment: 30 students. Class schedule: Wednesdays 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The delivery method for this course is currently In Person. Please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery method may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department.
