About The Position

This position is for a Sessional Lecturer to teach SOC445H5F - Advanced Topics in Sociology. The course will involve an in-depth examination of selected topics in Sociology, with a focus this year on corruption, cults, and/or new religious movements. The estimated course enrollment is 50 students, with an estimated 100 hours of TA support. The class schedule is Tuesdays from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The sessional dates of appointment are from September 1 to December 31, 2026. The salary for this half-course appointment is $9,997.48, inclusive of vacation pay. Please note that collective agreement rates will prevail if they differ from the posting.

Requirements

  • PhD in Sociology or equivalent as demonstrated by refereed/published research
  • Strong academic record
  • Previous experience teaching a similar course
  • Evidence of teaching excellence in the subject covered in the course
  • Must include a description of the topic and the approach they would take for the course they are proposing

Nice To Haves

  • Preference in hiring is given to qualified individuals advanced to the rank of Sessional Lecturer II or Sessional Lecturer III in accordance with Article 14:12 of the CUPE 3902 Unit 3 collective agreement.
