ServiceNow Platform Engineer

LIGHTFEATHER IO LLC•Washington, DC
•$180,000 - $200,000•Hybrid

About The Position

LightFeather is seeking a ServiceNow Platform Engineer to own a new ServiceNow environment for a federal program. The role involves building the environment from the ground up—including provisioning, configuration, security hardening, integration enablement, and readiness validation—within a secure federal enclave. The engineer will serve as the platform owner, supporting module implementation, including CMDB, platform upgrades, and continuous improvement. This is a hands-on role for someone able to take an environment from initial setup to production and support its growth. The position is hybrid in Washington, D.C. (20036), and is full-time. The annual salary range is $180,000–$200,000, based on experience. U.S. citizenship is required due to federal contract requirements, and a Top Secret clearance is required. Candidates with an active Secret clearance are encouraged to apply; LightFeather may sponsor an upgrade to Top Secret for the right candidate.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on experience administering, configuring, and engineering on the ServiceNow platform.
  • Demonstrated experience standing up new ServiceNow instances or leading instance-level builds and migrations.
  • Strong server-side and client-side JavaScript scripting ability, including Glide APIs, Business Rules, and Script Includes.
  • Experience installing and configuring MID Servers and developing platform integrations using REST/SOAP web services.
  • ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA) certification.
  • Familiarity with federal security and compliance frameworks, including NIST, FISMA, and STIGs.
  • Experience working on project teams that use Agile/Scrum.
  • Ability to communicate and listen effectively with business and technical colleagues, regardless of title, with good self-awareness.
  • U.S. citizenship.
  • Top Secret clearance; candidates with an active Secret clearance may apply, with potential sponsorship of an upgrade to Top Secret.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience in federal or defense contracting environments, particularly classified, air-gapped, or otherwise isolated networks.
  • ServiceNow CAD (Certified Application Developer) or CIS (Certified Implementation Specialist) certification.
  • Hands-on experience with CMDB, ITOM, or Discovery.
  • Experience with release coordination, version control, environment management, and automated testing strategies, including ServiceNow Automated Test Framework (ATF).
  • Experience supporting Windows Server implementation, upgrades, and integrations as required by the environment.

Responsibilities

  • Stand up and configure a new ServiceNow environment within a secure federal enclave, establishing instance architecture, baseline configurations, and administration standards.
  • Install, configure, and maintain MID Servers and establish secure connectivity within the environment.
  • Configure authentication, authorization, and access management, including LDAP/Active Directory, SSO/SAML, and role-based access controls.
  • Harden the platform in accordance with federal security and operational standards, including NIST, FISMA, and applicable DISA STIGs, and support Assessment and Authorization (ATO) activities.
  • Establish and maintain platform administration baselines, including system properties, plugin activation, instance security settings, and upgrade and patch management processes.
  • Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems using REST/SOAP web services and IntegrationHub, as permitted within the environment.
  • Support ongoing implementation and optimization of platform modules, including ITSM and CMDB, in collaboration with the broader team.
  • Maintain update sets, environment documentation, build procedures, and technical design records.
  • Use an Agile/Scrum methodology to manage platform and development work.
  • Participate in client calls and technical discussions, coordinating with security, infrastructure, and program stakeholders to resolve dependencies and design gaps early.
