The Service Technician II repairs, tests, diagnoses, and adjusts crane machinery and equipment, working under the guidance of a qualified shop or field service technician during component disassembly, repair, reassembly, and testing. The technician maintains the tools and company equipment needed for the job, works safely and neatly, and uses dealer computer systems to complete work orders and other documentation. The role includes inspecting and cleaning components, reusing parts where appropriate to control repair costs, preparing repair estimates and parts requisitions, and completing accurate time cards and service reports. The technician monitors expenses against estimates and alerts the lead person to potential cost overruns before work is completed. The position may temporarily assume the lead person role as needed. The technician also maintains service literature and stays aware of technical changes in the industry. The work is typically performed after regular business hours, with occasional requirements to work days, holidays, and weekends. The role has no supervisory responsibility. It involves frequent exposure to outdoor conditions, heat, noise, vibration, hazards, fumes, dust, and oils, as well as occasional exposure to extreme cold and air particulates or contaminants.
