About The Position

The Senior XR Engineer works in Mayo Clinic’s Division of Immersive Learning Design, a team in the Department of Education that creates augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) experiences for medical education, research, surgical planning, and clinical applications. The engineer integrates digital twins and patient-specific 3D models into XR platforms and develops user-centered experiences that support clinical skills, safety, confidence, and collaboration. Solutions may be deployed across VR, AR, MR, mobile devices, web, and desktop platforms, with attention to operating-system independence and changing XR hardware. The role serves as technical lead for division projects and clinical sponsors, providing technical direction, mentoring team members, designing system architectures, and developing immersive interaction standards and processes. The engineer collaborates with multidisciplinary clinical, educational, design, and technical teams; evaluates new technologies and capital equipment; maintains sponsor relationships; and contributes to technical documentation and presentations. The position requires on-site presence with flexibility to work from home after orientation and is a combination of remote and on-site work. The employee must live within a 100-mile driving distance of Mayo Clinic’s Rochester campus. Visa sponsorship is unavailable, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
