About The Position

The Senior XR Engineer works in Mayo Clinic’s Division of Immersive Learning Design, a team within the Department of Education that develops augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and mixed reality (MR) solutions for medical education. The role integrates digital twins and patient-specific 3D models into XR platforms for surgical planning, education, research, and XR-enabled medical devices. It involves collaborating across clinical, educational, design, and technical disciplines to create user-centered immersive experiences and software that can be deployed across VR, AR, MR, mobile, web, and desktop platforms. The engineer serves as a Technical Lead for division projects and clinical sponsors, providing technical and work direction, mentoring staff, designing engineering system architectures, defining immersive interaction standards, and developing processes for visualizing content with immersive technology. The role also includes evaluating emerging technologies and equipment, maintaining sponsor relationships, preparing technical documentation, and staying current with XR trends. The position combines remote and on-site work and requires on-site presence. After becoming oriented to the role, the employee may work from home with flexibility during the week. The employee must live within a 100-mile driving distance of the Rochester Mayo Clinic campus. Visa sponsorship is unavailable, and Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program.
