Bertelsmann-Jobs•Morrisville, NC
•$95,000 - $106,500•Hybrid

About The Position

The Senior UX Designer leads complex, end-to-end product design work for Relias products and major workflows. The role partners with Product Management and Engineering from discovery and problem definition through interaction design, prototyping, validation, delivery, and post-launch learning. It applies user insight, design-system standards, accessibility requirements, and outcome data to guide design decisions, align stakeholders, and improve product experience quality and consistency. This is a senior individual-contributor role with no direct people-management responsibility. The designer leads experience design from problem definition through implementation, conducts or supports research and usability testing, and uses analytics, feedback, and post-launch evidence to evaluate outcomes and guide iteration. The role works across product teams to maintain alignment, account for dependencies and cross-product impacts, and deliver cohesive, accessible experiences. It also contributes to design-system assets, team practices, critiques, and the development of less-experienced designers. The position is part of Relias’s flexible hybrid work environment. The employee must live in North Carolina within commuting distance of the Morrisville headquarters (approximately a one-hour commute) and is expected to work at the headquarters approximately 30–40 days per quarter.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in user experience design, human-computer interaction, interaction design, graphic design, psychology, information science, or a related field.
  • At least 5 years of UX or product design experience designing complex digital products or workflows, including end-to-end ownership from discovery through implementation.
  • Portfolio demonstrating user-centered problem solving, research-informed design decisions, interaction and visual design capability, prototyping, and measurable or observable outcomes.
  • Experience partnering with product managers and engineers throughout the product-development lifecycle.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma for interface design, component use, interactive prototyping, design documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Ability to use and contribute to a design system, recognize and intentionally reuse existing patterns, and determine when a deviation is justified.
  • Working knowledge of user-centered design, interaction design, information architecture, visual design, responsive design, and usability principles.
  • Ability to design and evaluate experiences against accessibility requirements, including applicable WCAG standards.
  • Ability to communicate design rationale, facilitate critique, incorporate feedback, and influence decisions across Product Management, Engineering, and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to balance user needs, business objectives, technical constraints, delivery timelines, and design quality across multiple priorities.
  • Ability to define or contribute to success measures and use research findings, product analytics, and feedback to iterate on designs.
  • Ability to review implemented experiences with Engineering partners and identify gaps between approved design intent and delivered functionality.
  • Ability to work effectively in Agile product-development environments and participate in discovery, refinement, planning, and delivery ceremonies.
  • Ability to coach or mentor other designers through feedback, critique, examples, and knowledge sharing.
  • Must live in North Carolina within a commutable distance of the Morrisville headquarters (approximately a one-hour commute).

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing complex B2B SaaS products or workflow-intensive enterprise applications.
  • Experience with healthcare, learning technology, compliance, or other regulated or accessibility-sensitive environments.
  • Experience contributing to or evolving a shared design system.
  • Experience with product analytics, experimentation, or UX measurement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Lead complex product experiences and major workflows from problem definition through implementation, translating user needs and business objectives into experience strategies, user flows, information architecture, wireframes, prototypes, and high-fidelity designs.
  • Make and document design decisions that balance usability, accessibility, design-system standards, technical feasibility, delivery constraints, and product outcomes.
  • Partner with Engineering through refinement, development, and quality review to clarify intended behavior, resolve design questions, and verify the delivered experience against approved design intent.
  • Partner with Product Management to define research goals, choose methods, and plan research or usability testing for complex product questions.
  • Conduct or support interviews, usability tests, concept validation, and other research; synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings into design priorities and recommendations.
  • Define or contribute to experience success measures and use product analytics, user feedback, research findings, and post-launch evidence to evaluate outcomes and guide iteration.
  • Collaborate with product managers, business partners, designers, and Engineering to frame problems, evaluate options, establish design direction, and maintain alignment through delivery.
  • Work across product pillars to assess cross-product impacts and dependencies and support a cohesive product experience.
  • Present design rationale and supporting evidence, facilitate feedback, navigate competing needs, and recommend practical decisions when perspectives or requirements conflict.
  • Manage stakeholder expectations, dependencies, and design deliverables to keep work scoped and coordinated toward agreed product objectives.
  • Apply the Relias design system and established patterns; identify reuse opportunities and gaps, and determine when deviation is justified.
  • Integrate accessibility and inclusive design throughout discovery, design, validation, documentation, and implementation.
  • Contribute reusable components, patterns, guidance, and documented decisions that improve product consistency, maintainability, and quality.
  • Contribute to design critiques, working sessions, and team learning by giving and incorporating constructive feedback.
  • Mentor less-experienced designers through coaching, examples, knowledge sharing, and support with complex design challenges, without formal people-management responsibility.
  • Partner with UX Operations to improve UX methods, documentation, and team practices; use approved AI tools with appropriate human review and in accordance with company policies to support research synthesis, concept exploration, documentation, and design iteration.
