About The Position

Apple’s Information Systems and Technology (IS&T) organization supports Apple’s customers and employees, including systems that support 2.5 billion active Apple devices and billions of secure transactions. Retail and Marcom Engineering builds and operates systems and experiences for Apple’s online and physical stores, as well as interactive marketing experiences and tools for creative operations. The Senior UI Engineer will craft high-performance, accessible, scalable web applications that meet high standards for design, usability, and engineering excellence. The role involves translating requirements, user journeys, and wireframes into intuitive, production-ready applications, with close collaboration across UX design, product management, and backend engineering. The engineer will build and maintain applications using modern JavaScript or TypeScript frameworks; create reusable component libraries and enterprise design-token systems; monitor and optimize web performance; and ensure accessibility and cross-browser usability. The role also involves API integration, automated testing, code and design reviews, and improving developer tools and CI/CD workflows. Generative AI tools may be used to accelerate development, and AI or LLM services may be integrated into user experiences. The position calls for autonomy, creative problem-solving, and a sustained focus on quality.

Requirements

  • 4–8 years of professional front-end engineering experience building large-scale consumer- or enterprise-facing web applications.
  • Deep hands-on expertise in modern JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, semantic HTML5, and advanced CSS3.
  • Practical experience using Generative AI tools such as ChatGPT, GitHub Copilot, or Claude to improve software development workflows.
  • Experience architecting scalable applications with React, Angular, or Vue and state management solutions such as Redux, MobX, Context API, or NgRx.
  • Experience building or contributing to reusable component libraries or design systems, with strong responsive-design and pixel-perfect implementation skills.
  • Demonstrated expertise in front-end performance profiling and optimization, including code splitting, lazy loading, rendering efficiency, caching, and bundle minimization.
  • In-depth understanding of cross-browser compatibility, modern web standards, and WCAG/WAI-ARIA accessibility compliance.
  • Experience integrating RESTful and GraphQL APIs, managing asynchronous data flows, and handling complex or large-scale front-end datasets.
  • Proficiency with front-end automated testing frameworks such as Jest, Playwright, Cypress, or Testing Library; modern Git workflows; and Agile delivery practices.
  • Strong analytical, debugging, and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to independently solve complex technical challenges.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience integrating applications with LLMs or AI-powered APIs.
  • Experience developing or contributing to enterprise design systems and component libraries.
  • AEM or content-management experience.
  • Experience with Storybook or similar component development and documentation tools.
  • Experience with modern build and bundling tools such as Vite, Webpack, or Babel.
  • Experience with micro-frontend architectures or modular front-end design patterns.
  • Experience with Node.js or other backend technologies.
  • Experience with Figma, Sketch, Adobe XD, or similar design tools and design-to-development workflows.
  • Experience with AI/LLM-powered applications, AI agents, or intelligent UI experiences.
  • Experience with streaming APIs, WebSockets, Server-Sent Events, or real-time web applications.
  • Experience with data visualization frameworks such as D3.js or equivalent.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines and cloud-based application development.
  • Experience modernizing or migrating large-scale legacy web applications.

Responsibilities

  • Architect, build, and maintain scalable, high-performance web applications using modern JavaScript or TypeScript and frameworks such as React, Angular, or Vue.
  • Translate wireframes and designs into pixel-perfect, responsive user experiences.
  • Design and scale reusable component libraries and enterprise design-token systems for visual consistency and development velocity.
  • Measure and optimize production performance, including Core Web Vitals, rendering, bundle sizes, lazy loading, and asset caching.
  • Promote WCAG accessibility standards and inclusive design, ensuring cross-browser compatibility and usability across devices.
  • Integrate front-end clients with RESTful and GraphQL services and manage asynchronous state, data streaming, and complex datasets.
  • Write automated unit, integration, and end-to-end tests; participate in code and design reviews; and improve developer tooling, automation, and CI/CD workflows.
  • Use Generative AI tools to accelerate prototyping, coding, testing, and debugging, validating generated code for security, privacy, and correctness.
  • Integrate applications with LLM APIs, services, and agentic workflows to build contextual user experiences such as conversational interfaces, semantic search, and intelligent recommendations.
  • Collaborate with UX designers, product managers, and backend engineers to shape technical solutions and deliver end-to-end features with high autonomy.
