Senior Systems Integration & Test Engineer

Nimble Robotics•South San Francisco, CA
•$160,000 - $190,000

About The Position

Nimble is seeking a Senior Systems Integration & Test Engineer with deep electrical engineering expertise to own the electrical health of its warehouse robot fleet, from next-generation hardware bring-up through field deployment. The role works across Electrical Engineering, Firmware, Mechanical Engineering, Software, and Operations, diagnosing electrical system failures and translating findings into design, test, and process improvements that help maintain production fleet service levels. The engineer serves as the senior technical escalation point for electrical failures on deployed robots, investigates hardware and firmware faults, and leads systems integration and validation for new hardware. The position also builds test fixtures, automation, diagnostic tools, and field procedures, and communicates root causes and corrective actions to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders. Travel to warehouse sites for on-site diagnosis may be required, up to approximately 20%.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
  • At least 5 years of experience in systems integration, hardware validation, or test engineering for robotics, electromechanical, automotive, or similarly complex hardware products.
  • Hands-on experience diagnosing board-level failures in power distribution, motor control, and digital logic or controller boards, in both laboratory and field settings.
  • Strong understanding of power electronics, including DC-DC conversion, battery systems, protection circuits, MOSFET switching, gate drivers, and BLDC/PMSM motor drives.
  • Experience with laboratory tools including oscilloscopes with current and differential probes, DMMs, electronic loads, bench supplies, logic analyzers, and CAN bus analyzers.
  • Ability to read and work from schematics, PCB layouts, datasheets, and wiring harness drawings, and to perform component-level rework and probing.
  • Track record of leading root-cause investigations through closure and documenting corrective actions that measurably reduce field failures.
  • Proficiency in Python or a similar language for test automation and analysis of logs and telemetry data.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to produce clear root-cause analyses that hardware, firmware, and operations teams can act on.
  • Willingness to travel to warehouse sites for on-site diagnosis, up to approximately 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the senior technical escalation point for deployed-robot electrical failures, including power loss, brownouts, resets, communication dropouts, motor controller faults, and intermittent emergency stops.
  • Rapidly triage field incidents and determine whether the cause is a board, harness or connector, firmware, mechanical, or environmental fault.
  • Analyze fleet telemetry, error codes, and logs to identify failure trends, distinguish systemic issues from isolated incidents, and prioritize fixes by fleet impact.
  • Debug embedded firmware on STM32-class microcontrollers with the firmware team, including decoding fault and error flags, examining crash dumps and fault registers, and connecting a JTAG/SWD debugger to live or failed boards.
  • Distinguish hardware faults from firmware faults such as watchdog resets, interrupt-service-routine timing overruns, misconfigured protection thresholds, and faulty build configurations.
  • Own electrical integration and validation for next-generation hardware, including board bring-up, power-on and power-sequencing tests, harness verification, and system-level integration with firmware and robot software.
  • Write and execute electrical test plans covering DVT/PVT, HALT/HASS, thermal, vibration, EMC pre-compliance, and long-duration duty-cycle and reliability testing.
  • Build test fixtures, automated test scripts, and diagnostic tools for field and manufacturing teams to use in fault triage.
  • Translate root causes into corrective actions, including board revisions, component changes, firmware fixes, test coverage, and field service procedures.
  • Communicate failure impact, root cause, and fix status to engineering leadership and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Travel to warehouse sites for on-site diagnosis, up to approximately 20%.

Benefits

  • Unlimited flexible time off.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance through several plan options.
  • Paid parental leave following a birth.
  • Commuter benefits, including access to fully paid parking spots.
  • Cash referral bonus for referring candidates who are hired.
  • 401(k) retirement plan.
  • Equity program.
