Systems Integration & Test Engineer

Leidos•Gaithersburg, MD

About The Position

Leidos is seeking a Test Engineer (Level 2) to support the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. The role contributes to verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, with a focus on testing Air Traffic Control modernization initiatives. Under the guidance of senior engineers, the engineer helps design, implement, and maintain test frameworks and procedures that support operational readiness and align with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team uses AI and machine learning techniques to enhance testing; familiarity with these approaches is a plus. The engineer works both independently and as part of a team, coordinating with software and systems engineering teams and lab management on installation and integration efforts. The role supports test readiness reviews, system qualification events, and formal customer testing, and requires the ability to travel. The position typically requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience and 2–4 years of relevant experience.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Typically requires 2–4 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Experience in testing, test script development, and system-level verification of complex systems.
  • Working knowledge of test automation, including automated test frameworks and scripts such as Squish, Selenium, PyTest, or Robot Framework.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization (Docker or Podman), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to interpret and author well-formed documents.
  • Ability to support travel.

Nice To Haves

  • General familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted testing approaches, such as using AI to generate test cases or flag anomalies in results, and Claude Code.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML-based tools and techniques to enhance testing.
  • Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop test approaches and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.
  • Exposure to test and evaluation standards, including Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Support development, implementation, and maintenance of test frameworks for verification and validation of complex systems.
  • Develop system-level and component-level test procedures, test cases, and data sets based on formal requirements and system specifications, with guidance as needed.
  • Write and execute test cases, scenarios, and scripts using tools and frameworks such as Squish, Selenium, PyTest, or Robot Framework.
  • Troubleshoot and debug tests to identify failure root causes and support defect resolution with software and systems engineering teams.
  • Execute integration testing of distributed systems in containerized or virtualized environments, and help manage virtual machines and development containers.
  • Apply AI/ML-based tools and techniques to enhance testing, coverage, and efficiency where applicable.
  • Maintain test artifacts and documentation, including the Verification Requirements Test Matrix (VRTM) and traceability matrices.
  • Interface with SkyLine-X KN-2 software and system engineering teams and lab management to support installation and integration efforts.
  • Support test readiness reviews, system qualification events, and formal testing with the customer.
  • Participate in daily stand-ups, Sprint Planning, Release Planning, and other Agile team activities.
  • Be able to support travel.
