About The Position

Leidos is seeking a senior Test Engineer (Level 4) to serve as a lead member of a team supporting the SkyLine-X KN-2 program. The role leads verification, validation, and qualification of advanced systems, with a focus on testing methodologies and systems integration for Air Traffic Control modernization initiatives. The engineer designs, implements, and maintains test frameworks and procedures aligned with systems assurance, safety, and performance standards. The team uses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) techniques to enhance testing; experience with these approaches is valued. The position provides technical leadership for systems and software integration, development test, and formal test execution. It involves integrating and validating capabilities in physical and virtual labs, supporting customer demonstrations and acceptance testing, performing deployment activities at operational facilities, and collaborating across software, systems engineering, networking, infrastructure, and customer teams. The engineer develops test strategies, procedures, automation, and documentation; troubleshoots complex system-level issues; and communicates status to stakeholders. The role may require overtime, off-hours, or weekend work to meet deadlines, and travel must be supported.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience, or a related Master's degree with 6+ years of relevant experience; equivalent experience may be considered.
  • Experience integrating and testing large-scale, distributed software systems.
  • Strong Linux/UNIX administration and troubleshooting experience.
  • Experience with Python, Bash, or Shell scripting for automation and data analysis.
  • Experience troubleshooting network configurations, connectivity, and distributed-system interfaces.
  • Experience developing automation solutions that improve engineering efficiency.
  • Working knowledge of test automation, including automated test frameworks and scripts such as Squish, Selenium, PyTest, or Robot Framework for repeatable testing.
  • Demonstrated experience in testing, test framework development, and system-level verification of complex or safety-critical systems.
  • Systems Engineering experience, including gathering user requirements and converting them into system requirements on complex projects.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages.
  • Experience with Linux or Unix-based environments, containerization (Docker, Podman), and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Technical leadership experience requiring significant coordination across functional areas such as Software, Hardware, and Systems Engineering.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience working directly with customers to discuss requirements and objectives.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to work overtime, off hours, or weekends if necessary to meet deadlines and to support travel.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to support regression coverage.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted testing approaches, such as test case generation or anomaly detection, and Claude Code.
  • Experience integrating mission-critical or highly available systems.
  • Air Traffic Management domain experience.
  • Familiarity with requirement decomposition to develop A-Level test approaches and procedures.
  • Familiarity with the Atlassian Tool Suite and JIRA.
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and system integration verification and validation processes.
  • Knowledge of microservices architectures, message brokers, RESTful API testing, and Chaos Testing principles.
  • Knowledge of test tools such as Selenium, Sikuli, and Squish, and simulation or test-harness frameworks.
  • Familiarity with NextGen Air Traffic Control modernization programs.
  • Experience preparing and executing Verification Cross Reference Matrices (VCRM) and Test Readiness Review (TRR) documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate, configure, and validate SkyLine-X KN-2 capabilities in physical and virtual integration laboratories.
  • Execute system integration, verification, and validation activities to ensure the system is properly configured and operating within the National Airspace System.
  • Support formal customer demonstrations, verification events, and customer acceptance testing with KN-2 stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with software, systems engineering, networking, and infrastructure teams to investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve complex system-level issues.
  • Analyze integration and test results, identify root causes, and provide detailed technical documentation supporting issue resolution.
  • Support deployment and integration at customer operational facilities, including Air Traffic Control Towers (ATCTs).
  • Execute system interface testing and validate communications across internal and external interfaces.
  • Coordinate integration activities with customer personnel and cross-functional Leidos engineering teams.
  • Develop automated tools, scripts, and AI-assisted solutions to improve testing efficiency, reduce manual effort, and streamline repetitive tasks.
  • Support remote deployment activities by coordinating with infrastructure, networking, and installation teams.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of SkyLine-X architecture, functionality, interfaces, and operational workflows.
  • Partner with Systems Engineering to develop integration and test strategies for new capabilities and system enhancements.
  • Integrate services with databases, messaging systems, and external APIs.
  • Troubleshoot networking issues, IP configurations, and interface connectivity.
  • Demonstrate system capabilities during formal run-for-record events supporting customer acceptance and release readiness.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior integration engineers while helping ensure program milestones are achieved.
  • Serve as a technical lead for systems and software integration supporting Development Test (DT) and Formal Test execution on the SkyLine-X KN-2 program.
  • Integrate complex systems and software with minimal oversight, debug system-level issues, and provide detailed supporting data on identified issues.
