The Senior Specialist: Business Development and Marketing will be instrumental in developing and executing business development strategies for the Energy industry group, a key area of accelerated growth. This role involves partnering with lawyers and firm leadership to drive client growth, enhance market positioning, and implement strategic plans globally. The Specialist will manage key initiatives, collaborate with the Global Business Development and Marketing team, and contribute to the firm's strategic priorities across Product, Industry, and Client Teams. The position offers broad visibility across practices and geographies and is designed for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment, seeking a challenging role with significant career exposure. This is a high-impact position at the core of Mayer Brown's strategic growth.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, marketing, communications, English, or other discipline requiring analytical and advanced writing and research skills.
  • Six years in a business development, marketing, and/or research-related position in the professional services arena (e.g., law, accounting, or consulting).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and participating on video conferences in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with accepted research techniques and databases typically used for competitive intelligence in a professional services company (e.g., Manzama, Capital IQ, Mergermarket, LexisNexis, Lexology, etc.).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, able to communicate effectively, proactively, and professionally with all levels of the Firm and outside vendors.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – must have a mature, professional, and personable presentation and demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support business development team members and lawyers in executing business plans and client strategies, and track implementation and progress.
  • Communicate successes of assigned groups internally, sharing best practices and group activities to ensure coordination across the Business Development and Marketing Department.
  • Support thought leadership publications and offerings, including project management and data mining for business development opportunities, ensuring robust internal and external distribution.
  • Support direct marketing and business development programs, including planning and executing podcast/video recordings, seminars, sponsorships, and other events.
  • Serve as a central resource for event logistics, including meeting rooms, video conferencing, event setup, and material delivery.
  • Manage communications for events, including invitations, RSVPs, meeting invites, and internal/external communications.
  • Leverage appropriate internal teams for event support, such as RSVPs, CLE credit, and catering.
  • Attend meetings and events to provide on-site support.
  • Support initiatives related to research, data collection and analysis, directory submissions (e.g., Chambers), matter coding, economic reporting, intranet site development/maintenance, and internal meeting support.
  • Collect global matter data for the energy sector and manage the matter database for data quality and firm-wide availability.
  • Develop and maintain industry survey and directory ranking content and results for assigned groups.
  • Respond to industry survey requests and directory ranking submissions.
  • Track global pipeline activities.
  • Conduct research, analysis, and competitive intelligence gathering for strategic planning, competitive positioning, and business development activities for assigned groups.
  • Identify speaking opportunities.
  • Periodically review and consult with lawyers regarding their profiles (bios) and practice descriptions to ensure they are current.
  • Leverage the Firm’s CRM database (InterAction) for business development purposes, including pulling activity reports, contact lists for invitations, and maintaining contact lists.
  • Support the development and tailoring of proposals and presentations to clients by gathering relevant information and materials.
  • Draft language, handle edits, and proofread proposals and presentations, supporting initiatives through delivery to meet deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain group-specific marketing content, including group/matter descriptions, brochures, PowerPoint presentations, website/blog content, social media posts, and biographies.
  • Provide support for seminars, sponsorships, and other events and initiatives in the Houston office when relevant.
  • Manage projects/processes independently with limited supervision.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior members of the department.
  • Ensure processes, best practices, and Firm policies related to graphic design are communicated and understood by stakeholders and colleagues.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives.
