About The Position

Mayer Brown is an international law firm that represents major corporations, funds, and financial institutions in complex transactions and disputes. This role is for a Senior Specialist: Business Development and Marketing in the Commercial department in the New York office. The position will focus on the Energy industry group, partnering with lawyers and firm leadership to drive client growth, enhance market positioning, and execute strategic plans globally. The role is designed for an individual who thrives in a fast-paced, intellectually stimulating environment and seeks a challenging, high-impact role within the firm's strategic growth engine.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, marketing, communications, English, or another discipline requiring analytical and advanced writing and research skills.
  • Six years in a business development, marketing, and/or research-related position in the professional services arena (e.g., law, accounting, or consulting), with a preference for law.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Proficiency with scheduling and participating on video conferences in a professional setting.
  • Familiarity with accepted research techniques and databases typically used for competitive intelligence in a professional services company (e.g., Manzama, Capital IQ, Mergermarket, LexisNexis, Lexology, etc.).
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – must have a mature, professional, and personable presentation and demeanor.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates good judgment and problem-solving capabilities.
  • A team-first and client-service orientation.
  • Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities and deadlines and ability to work well under pressure.

Responsibilities

  • Assist and support business development team members and lawyers in executing business plans and client strategies, and tracking implementation and progress.
  • Communicate successes of assigned groups internally, share best practices, and coordinate support initiatives across the Business Development and Marketing Department.
  • Support thought leadership publications, including project management and data mining for business development opportunities, ensuring robust internal and external distribution.
  • Support direct marketing and business development programs such as podcasts, video recordings, seminars, sponsorships, and events, managing logistics and communications.
  • Support initiatives related to research, data collection and analysis, directory submissions, matter coding, economic reporting, and intranet site development and maintenance.
  • Collect global energy matter data and manage the matter database for data quality and firm-wide availability.
  • Develop and maintain industry survey and directory ranking content and results for assigned groups, and respond to industry survey requests or directory ranking submissions.
  • Track global pipeline activities.
  • Engage in research, analysis, and competitive intelligence gathering for strategic planning, competitive firm positioning, and business development activities, and identify speaking opportunities.
  • Periodically review and consult with lawyers regarding their profiles and practice descriptions to ensure they are current.
  • Leverage the Firm’s CRM database (InterAction) for business development purposes.
  • Support the development and tailoring of proposals and presentations to clients and marketing material development by gathering information, drafting language, handling edits, proofreading, and supporting delivery to meet deadlines.
  • Develop and maintain group-specific marketing content, including group and matter descriptions, brochures, presentations, website/blog content, social media posts, and biographies.
  • Provide support for seminars, sponsorships, and other events and initiatives in the Houston office when relevant.
  • Manage projects and processes independently with limited supervision.
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and mentorship to junior members of the department.
  • Ensure processes, best practices, and Firm policies related to graphic design are communicated and understood.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet Firm goals and objectives.
