About The Position

Evinova is a health-tech business focused on advancing digital transformation across the life sciences sector. It develops digital solutions intended to improve clinical research, care delivery, and patient experiences. Employees are expected to work from the office three days per week. This role is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland; candidates must live within commuting distance or be willing to relocate. The Senior Software Engineer will design, build, and evolve backend services and APIs that enable clinical trial teams to configure, deploy, and maintain digital study experiences. This hands-on, primarily backend-focused role develops business-critical software and has significant product impact. The engineer owns technical outcomes, contributes to technical design and engineering decisions, and works with engineers, UX designers, product colleagues, and study delivery teams to address problems across the study lifecycle. The team is distributed across locations and time zones, including Europe, requiring some early-morning overlap and deliberate coordination, communication, and documentation. Engineers are expected to use approved AI tools responsibly and to review and validate generated output against security, privacy, quality, and regulatory requirements. The role involves building TypeScript and Node.js services, REST APIs, integrations, and data models; evaluating technical trade-offs; and taking features, services, or initiatives through design, implementation, testing, deployment, and continued improvement. The engineer builds clean, maintainable, testable, secure software with appropriate automated testing; supports scalability, observability, resilience, and performance; and contributes to monitoring, troubleshooting, and release support in line with the team's production-support model. The role also includes reducing technical debt, strengthening automation, sharing knowledge, mentoring colleagues, and improving engineering practices. Success includes delivering features that reduce manual steps and rework in study setup and maintenance, making configuration and change workflows faster and less error-prone, improving testing, observability, and incident response, and establishing reusable technical patterns and documentation. The technology environment includes TypeScript, Node.js, REST APIs, OpenAPI, JSON Schema, MongoDB, relational databases, Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS. React and related frontend technologies are used across the wider product. The position is primarily backend-focused, with collaboration across the stack as appropriate; experience with every listed technology is not expected.
