About The Position

Benchling is hiring a Product Manager on the Study Lifecycle team to shape products such as Studies, Sample Testing, and Process Development. These products help scientists organize and plan scientific work and connect it to analysis across phases of drug development. The role focuses on bringing together experimental planning, execution data, and analysis around scientific questions, while making software intuitive for scientists and dependable for customers and partners integrating through APIs. The team is implementing Bioprocess at major pharmaceutical companies, improving the core product, and expanding into Analytical Sciences and downstream QC. The Product Manager will own product direction for Studies, Sample Testing, Process Development, and the connection between experiment run data and analysis. The role works closely with customers, go-to-market teams, design, and engineering to understand scientific workflows, set priorities, validate ideas, deliver products, and support their launch. Benchling is building an AI platform for biotech research and development and expects employees to develop AI fluency. The company’s interview process includes a brief AI-focused exercise or discussion. A life sciences background is not required; the company seeks an adaptable systems thinker with product judgment and experience across different problem spaces.

  • Experience guiding product architectural decisions and reasoning about data models, state machines, or schema design.
  • Ability to assess how technical decisions affect user experience, product extensibility, and reversibility.
  • Technical tool competency, such as using SQL for data-driven decisions, design tools for prototyping, or tools such as Cursor to ship product improvements.
  • Clear communication and the ability to adapt communication style to different audiences.
  • A track record of outcomes, including staying in key roles long enough to ship, learn, and discuss what worked and what did not.
  • Intellectual curiosity and the ability to apply learning to product decisions.

  • Experience in regulated or compliance-heavy industries.
  • Experience with configuration-heavy, platform-style products.
  • Experience in B2B SaaS during a growth or scaling stage.
  • Prior experience as an engineer, data scientist, or solutions consultant.

Responsibilities

  • Own the roadmap and outcomes for Studies, Sample Testing, Process Development, and the connection between experiment run data and analysis.
  • Decide what to build, why to build it, and in what order, serving scientists and customers and partners integrating through APIs.
  • Meet with customers and go-to-market teams to understand scientists’ workflows and distinguish requested features from underlying needs.
  • Bring customer and market context to the team and translate it into product direction.
  • Work with design and engineering to guide product decisions and build and ship products.
  • Validate ideas early with customers.
  • Enable customer experience teams on released products and partner with go-to-market teams to bring products to market.
  • Use tools such as SQL, AI, and a developer environment to investigate data, prototype ideas, and find and summarize customer discovery notes.
