About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will build the Identity & Regulatory Platform, the trust layer behind Paxos products. The team supports identity verification, KYC/KYB, sanctions and risk screening, onboarding and activation through the Paxos Dashboard and Identity APIs, and AI-enabled tools for Compliance. The role focuses on building systems that help financial institutions adopt blockchain safely while meeting regulatory obligations.

The engineer will own the customer journey from first contact through onboarding and activation. This includes designing customer verification and onboarding systems, applying AI to automate compliance review, and measuring and improving the onboarding funnel. The role works directly with Product, Compliance, and identity vendors, and includes backend service ownership, privacy capabilities, technical leadership, mentorship, and on-call participation.

Requirements

• At least 5 years building production backend systems, including at least 1 year at senior level.
• Strong proficiency in Go, Java, or Python; Go is strongly preferred.
• Experience designing APIs and data models for sensitive or regulated data.
• Focus on outcomes such as conversion, activation, and time-to-value, not only feature delivery.
• Ability to turn ambiguous requirements from non-engineering stakeholders into clear technical plans.
• Use AI tools daily to work faster and better.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with identity, KYC/AML, or onboarding systems.
• Experience with growth engineering or experimentation.
• Experience building LLM features in production.
• Experience with Persona or similar identity vendors.

Responsibilities

• Own the customer journey from lead through onboarding to activation across the Paxos Dashboard and Identity APIs.
• Instrument the onboarding funnel, identify drop-off and friction, and run experiments to reduce time-to-activation.
• Design, build, and operate backend services for KYC/KYB, identity verification, screening, and identity lifecycle.
• Use AI to automate compliance tasks such as document review, case triage, and risk assessment, replacing manual operations.
• Own integrations with third-party identity and screening vendors, including asynchronous workflows and webhooks.
• Build data-privacy capabilities, including GDPR erasure and PII handling, into the platform.
• Write design documents and lead technical decisions.
• Mentor teammates and participate in on-call.
