Senior Software Engineer, Identity Graph

Baselayer•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Baselayer is hiring a senior engineer to own product features across its identity graph, from schema design and data ingestion through entity resolution, API endpoints, multi-tenancy, and performance under customer load. The graph brings together US business and consumer identity data—including entities, officers, addresses, relationships, and public records—and supports fraud detection, KYB onboarding, portfolio monitoring, sanctions screening, and customer-facing API products. The role involves building and maintaining the end-to-end systems that ingest, normalize, link, store, and expose identity data. You will ship customer-facing APIs for search, lookup, monitoring, and webhook delivery, maintain a live Postgres database, optimize systems as data volume grows, and ensure queries are correctly scoped by organization, user, and permission. The position is based in San Francisco and follows a hybrid schedule with four days per week in the office.

Requirements

  • Have shipped production product features end-to-end across ingestion, storage, APIs, and customers.
  • Have owned a Postgres schema relied on for real money or decisions, and managed its ongoing evolution.
  • Strong async Python skills and experience operating async services at scale.
  • Deep Postgres expertise, including schema design under live load, using EXPLAIN ANALYZE, and zero-downtime migration tooling.
  • Experience with FastAPI or a close equivalent, including production APIs with authentication dependencies, OpenAPI contracts, and structured response models.
  • Experience building multi-tenant APIs with correctly scoped, load-bearing access control at the data layer.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with entity resolution, record linkage, or fuzzy matching at scale.
  • Search infrastructure experience, including full-text, fuzzy, or vector search kept in sync with a Postgres system of record.
  • Experience with KYC, KYB, fraud, or underwriting data pipelines.
  • Address parsing or normalization experience at country scale.
  • Experience building webhook delivery infrastructure with retries, signing, idempotency, and ordering guarantees.
  • GCP experience with Cloud Run, Cloud Tasks, Cloud SQL, and batch pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Ingest and normalize heterogeneous public records into the graph, owning the pipeline from ingestion and normalization through repository and API.
  • Build and maintain entity-resolution and record-linking systems that match businesses and people across sources with inconsistent identifiers, names, and addresses.
  • Design and ship customer-facing APIs for search, lookup, monitoring, and webhook delivery.
  • Own database schema design and zero-downtime migrations for a database operating continuously.
  • Optimize query patterns, ingestion pipelines, and API latency as data volume and graph complexity grow.
  • Build multi-tenancy and access control, ensuring queries are scoped by organization, user, and permission at the data layer.

Benefits

  • Flexible PTO.
  • Equity.
  • 100% coverage of health, dental, and vision premiums.
  • 401(k) with company match.
  • HSA contributions on applicable plans.
  • $250 monthly gym stipend.
  • Lunch stipend.
