Peraton•Laurel, MD
•$176,000 - $282,000

About The Position

This role provides research, development, evaluation, and demonstration of concepts, technologies, and capabilities to meet customer research requirements. The engineer delivers comprehensive cloud software research, development, and engineering services, leading the full software development lifecycle from requirements analysis and system design through integration, testing, deployment, and long-term enhancement of mission-critical cloud applications. The role focuses on building and sustaining robust, large-scale distributed systems and delivering end-to-end full-stack software services. The engineer designs solutions for large-scale data using massively parallel computation models and NoSQL architectures, diagnoses complex technical issues, and develops sustainable enhancements for system performance and reliability. The role also includes integrating and extending FOSS/COTS products, developing test plans and scripts, implementing CI/CD pipelines, and maintaining production web applications. The engineer produces technical documentation, ontologies, and data models and collaborates with data scientists, engineers, and product managers. The position emphasizes graph analytics and Neo4j, enterprise Java microservices using Spring Boot, graph-database integration with relational databases or search engines, graph analytics algorithms, cloud scalability, and advanced analytics. Work may involve AI and pattern discovery, specialized language or multimedia processing, and modeling data in heterogeneous environments.

Requirements

  • At least eight years of software development or engineering experience across the full software development lifecycle.
  • At least six years of experience with high-level programming languages such as Java, C, or C++.
  • At least five years of developing software in UNIX/Linux environments, specifically Red Hat versions.
  • Proven experience with NoSQL products such as HBase, Accumulo, or Bigtable.
  • Hands-on experience with MapReduce technologies such as Hadoop, Hive, or Pig, and HDFS.
  • Proficiency in RESTful services and serialization formats such as JSON/BSON.
  • Experience in requirements analysis and design for at least one major object-oriented system.
  • Experience delivering full-stack, end-to-end software services and graph-data integration and analytics.
  • Advanced development experience with the Spring Boot ecosystem, including Spring Data, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
  • Knowledge in at least four of the listed areas: graph data modeling and performance in Neo4j; enterprise Java microservices; graph-relational integration; graph analytics and algorithms; advanced analytics; cloud scalability; AI and pattern discovery; specialized processing; and data modeling.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with current polygraph.
  • Twenty years of experience as a Software Engineer supporting programs and contracts of similar scope, type, and complexity.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a related discipline from an accredited college or university, or four additional years of comparable SWE experience on projects with similar software processes in place of the degree.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing and optimizing Neo4j graph schemas, optimizing Cypher queries, managing indexes, and using APOC procedures for batching and large-scale data transformations.
  • Experience implementing scalable, high-concurrency backend services and performance tuning with Spring Boot, Spring Data, Spring Security, and Spring Cloud.
  • Experience integrating graph databases with traditional relational databases or search engines such as Elasticsearch in polyglot persistence architectures.
  • Familiarity with Neo4j Graph Data Science for pathfinding, centrality, or community detection algorithms.
  • Experience developing data-driven or event-driven analytics orchestrated through rules engines.
  • Understanding of massive scalability patterns used by companies such as Amazon and Google.
  • Experience with genetic algorithms, inference engines, or finding latent patterns in datasets exceeding 10 petabytes.
  • Experience in foreign-language processing, multimedia exploitation involving speech, text, image, or video, or social network discovery.
  • Experience documenting complex ontologies, schemas, and API specifications in heterogeneous environments.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver end-to-end full-stack software services, including requirements analysis, installation, evaluation, and issue resolution.
  • Lead the software development lifecycle from requirements analysis and system design through integration, testing, deployment, and long-term enhancement.
  • Diagnose complex technical issues and develop enhancements to improve system performance and reliability.
  • Design and implement solutions using massively parallel computation models and NoSQL architectures for large-scale data sets.
  • Develop and implement rigorous test plans and scripts, including unit, integration, and end-to-end tests.
  • Integrate and extend FOSS/COTS products to meet project requirements.
  • Implement continuous integration and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Deploy and maintain the web application in a production environment.
  • Generate technical documents, ontologies, and data models to support transparency and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with data scientists, engineers, and product managers.
  • Communicate technical information clearly, verbally and in writing.

Benefits

  • Heavily subsidized employee benefits coverage for employees and their dependents.
  • 25 days of PTO accrued annually, up to a generous PTO cap.
  • Eligibility to participate in a bonus plan.
  • Depending on position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
