About The Position

Horizon3.ai is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build product experiences that help customers understand, prioritize, and act on risk in their environments. The role owns meaningful product work end-to-end in close partnership with Product, Design, and other engineers. It is approximately 80% backend focused and 20% frontend focused, and calls for independent project delivery, proactive risk management, strong execution, code reviews, and collaborative problem solving. The engineer will build and ship product capabilities across backend services, APIs, and modern web application stacks. They will own moderate-to-large projects from scoping and technical design through implementation, rollout, and iteration; contribute to clear, maintainable, performant user-facing experiences; and help improve engineering quality, team execution, and the customer experience. This is a fully remote company role that may require up to 10% travel for team project kickoffs and an annual company meeting.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 6 years of professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong professional experience building and operating production software across the full stack of application development.
  • Experience building distributed backend services using a modern language such as Python, Go, Rust, Java, TypeScript, or similar.
  • Experience building backend services on AWS, GCP, or Azure, and familiarity with Docker and containerized applications.
  • Experience designing and operating APIs, services, and asynchronous or event-driven systems.
  • Production experience with SQL-based relational databases.
  • Experience with data modeling and persistence layers for product-grade backend systems.
  • Knowledge of observability, reliability, and operational best practices for production services.
  • Frontend development experience using modern JavaScript or TypeScript with frameworks such as React, Angular, or similar.
  • Ability to independently drive substantial work from requirements gathering through delivery while coordinating with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, technical judgment, engineering execution, and pragmatic problem-solving skills.
  • Product-minded approach, comfort balancing multiple workstreams and priorities, and ability to work effectively under ambiguity.

  • Experience with scoring or recommendation algorithms and data-intensive products.
  • Experience partnering closely with product managers to define and sequence an MVP while preserving future options.
