About The Position

The Senior Software Engineer will join Airbnb’s Cloud Infrastructure organization on the Cloud Experience team, which builds and maintains the foundational cloud platform experience used across Airbnb. The team develops intuitive interfaces and self-service workflows that help engineers construct and manage services and platforms without needing to manage underlying infrastructure directly. The role focuses on developing an AI-native infrastructure platform and building interfaces and agent-driven capabilities that help engineers provision and manage services throughout their lifecycle. Work spans developer APIs and CLIs, Kubernetes infrastructure and cloud automation, scheduling and autoscaling, multi-region capabilities, and integrations with identity, security, and service-mesh systems. The engineer will partner with teams across Airbnb to advance cloud capabilities for platforms supporting AI and ML workloads, with an emphasis on reliability, security, developer experience, efficiency, and scalability. The position is US remote eligible, with occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites as agreed with the manager. Employees must live in a state where Airbnb, Inc. has a registered entity. The role may be eligible for a bonus, equity, benefits, and Employee Travel Credits. The stated base pay range is $196,000–$230,000 USD.

Requirements

A degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience.
Experience building developer platforms or infrastructure interfaces, such as APIs, CLIs, or declarative configuration, at large scale.
Deep understanding of some of the following: Kubernetes, cluster lifecycle, infrastructure automation, public cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure), and their Infrastructure as a Service offerings.
Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively within and across engineering teams.
Strong problem-solving abilities and solid production debugging skills.

Nice To Haves

Experience building AI agents that use tools or APIs and evaluating their behavior.
Contributions to open-source infrastructure projects.
Experience building Kubernetes controllers.

Responsibilities

Deliver secure, efficient, highly available frameworks and platform capabilities that simplify infrastructure complexity.
Optimize and enhance existing systems to strengthen availability, improve efficiency, and adapt to an AI-native environment.
Develop APIs and tools that help Airbnb engineers simplify service management and provisioning while securely scaling platform enhancements.
Use and extend open-source projects such as Kubernetes and Argo CD, contributing improvements upstream when beneficial to the broader community.
Create agent-driven workflows with clear change previews and validation.
Work with service owners and partner teams to identify confusing workflows and improve them.
Debug production issues and improve the reliability and visibility of owned systems.
