About The Position

The Senior SAP ABAP Developer will support a global upgrade and implementation of a digital manufacturing platform using SAP MII/ME. This is a 6–8 month project with a premier Aerospace & Defense client. The role is the core backend development position, building and optimizing ERP-side interfaces, custom extensions, and cloud-readiness strategies to support shop-floor systems as the client transitions from ECC to S/4HANA and SAP BTP. The goal is secure, high-performance data exchange between the enterprise core and SAP MII/ME layers.

The developer will build and maintain integrations and custom solutions across SAP ECC and S/4HANA, including OData services, CDS Views, AMDP, BTP APIs and integration flows, and ABAP enhancements. The role also requires performance tuning, adherence to defense-industry compliance requirements such as ITAR data segregation, and close collaboration with lead functional consultants. The position calls for hands-on technical delivery, code remediation, organization, documentation, planning, and the ability to take a lead in working with the customer and distributed technical teams.

Requirements

• 10–15+ years of SAP experience is stated as a requirement in the posting.
• 8–12+ years of advanced SAP ABAP programming experience is stated in the technical qualifications.
• At least 1–2 projects and 3+ years of hands-on experience migrating to and developing natively in an SAP S/4HANA environment.
• Hands-on ABAP skills and code remediation experience.
• Experience completing 2–3 brownfield S/4HANA migration or implementation projects; the posting also identifies this as a must-have.
• Practical experience with SAP BTP services, such as SAP Integration Suite, Extension Suite, or BTP ABAP Environment, for side-by-side or decoupled extensions.
• Expertise in CDS Views, OData services, AMDP, and SAP Clean Core development principles.
• Technical understanding of S/4HANA PP, QM, and MM database tables and logic.
• Strong analytical skills and precise attention to detail.
• Collaborative approach and ability to work effectively across global, distributed technical teams.
• Strong organization, documentation, and planning skills; ability to take the lead while remaining hands-on.
• Due to ITAR regulations and defense contract restrictions, US citizenship or specific regional security clearances may be required.

Nice To Haves

• S/4HANA brownfield migration experience.
• Experience with PMMO (Project Manufacturing Management & Optimization).
• Prior experience developing code for Manufacturing Execution Systems or SAP MII/ME layers; SCADA experience is excluded.
• SAP BTP certification.

• Agile and Scrum delivery methodology experience.

Responsibilities

• Develop, optimize, and maintain interfaces using OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP to connect S/4HANA with SAP MII and SAP ME.
• Design and build clean-core extensions, APIs, and integration flows on SAP BTP to orchestrate data between S/4HANA and shop-floor solutions.
• Create custom ABAP objects, User Exits, BADIs, and Enhancement Spots in S/4HANA manufacturing modules, using RAP or modern extensibility frameworks.
• Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize ABAP code and S/4HANA database queries to support high-volume, real-time data transmissions.
• Ensure custom code, BTP applications, and data structures comply with defense-specific requirements, including ITAR data segregation and secure cloud standards.
• Work with lead functional consultants to translate technical specifications into secure, scalable S/4HANA ABAP and BTP solutions.
• Support global SAP digital manufacturing platform upgrades and implementation.
• Perform hands-on SAP S/4HANA code remediation and migration-related development.
• Maintain organized technical documentation and plan and lead technical work while remaining hands-on.
