Senior SAP ABAP Developers - Remote
About The Position
Seeking a Senior SAP ABAP Developer for a 6–8 month project supporting the global upgrade and implementation of a digital manufacturing platform (SAP MII/ME) for an Aerospace & Defense client. The developer will serve as a core backend resource, building and optimizing ERP-side interfaces, custom extensions, and cloud-readiness strategies. The work involves current ECC instances transitioning to S/4HANA and SAP BTP, with an emphasis on secure, high-performance data exchange between enterprise systems and shop-floor solutions. The role develops and maintains interfaces using OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP; builds clean-core extensions and integrations on SAP BTP; creates ABAP enhancements for manufacturing modules; and tunes code and database queries for high-volume, real-time data. The developer will also ensure solutions adhere to applicable defense-industry requirements, including ITAR data segregation and secure cloud standards, and collaborate with Lead Functional Consultants to turn technical specifications into scalable solutions.
Requirements
- 8–12+ years of advanced SAP ABAP programming experience.
- At least 1–2 projects and 3+ years of hands-on experience migrating to and developing natively in an SAP S/4HANA environment.
- Practical experience with SAP BTP services such as SAP Integration Suite, Extension Suite, or BTP ABAP Environment for side-by-side or decoupled extensions.
- Deep expertise building CDS Views, OData services, and AMDP, and applying SAP Clean Core development principles.
- Deep technical understanding of the underlying database tables and logic in S/4HANA PP, QM, and MM.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across global, distributed technical teams.
- US citizenship or specific regional security clearances may be required due to ITAR regulations and defense contract restrictions.
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience developing code for Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) or SAP MII/ME layers; SCADA experience is excluded.
- SAP S/4HANA implementation or migration experience with code remediation.
- SAP BTP certification.
- SAP ABAP Development certification.
- Experience with SAP Fiori and UI5 development.
- Experience with Agile and Scrum delivery methodologies.
- Senior Consultant background is noted as a nice-to-have.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain interfaces using OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP to connect S/4HANA with SAP MII and SAP ME.
- Design and build clean-core extensions, APIs, and integration flows on SAP BTP to orchestrate data between S/4HANA and shop-floor solutions.
- Create custom ABAP objects, User Exits, BADIs, and Enhancement Spots in S/4HANA manufacturing modules, using RAP or modern extensibility frameworks.
- Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize complex ABAP code and S/4HANA database queries to support high-volume, real-time data transmission.
- Ensure custom code, BTP applications, and data structures comply with applicable defense-specific requirements, including ITAR data segregation and secure cloud standards.
- Collaborate with Lead Functional Consultants to translate technical specifications into secure, scalable S/4HANA ABAP and BTP solutions.
