Senior SAP ABAP Developers (Digital Manufacturing Integration) - Remote
About The Position
The client is seeking senior SAP ABAP developers for a 6–8 month project supporting the global upgrade and implementation of a digital manufacturing platform using SAP MII/ME. The developers will serve as core backend developers, building and optimizing ERP-side interfaces, custom extensions, and cloud-readiness strategies for shop-floor systems. The work involves current ECC instances and their transition to S/4HANA and SAP BTP, with the goal of secure, high-performance data exchange between the enterprise core and MII/ME layers. The client is in the Aerospace & Defense industry. Developers will create and maintain interfaces using OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP; build clean-core extensions and integration flows on SAP BTP; and develop ABAP enhancements in S/4HANA manufacturing modules. They will also remediate and optimize code, ensure adherence to defense-related compliance requirements such as ITAR data segregation, and collaborate with lead functional consultants to deliver secure, scalable solutions. The role calls for extensive hands-on ABAP experience, including code remediation and S/4HANA brownfield migration work. Requirements
- Advanced SAP ABAP programming experience; the posting cites 8–12+ years in the technical qualifications and 10–15+ years in the requirements section.
- Hands-on experience migrating and developing natively in SAP S/4HANA, including at least 1–2 projects and 3+ years as specified in the technical qualifications.
- Must have 2–3 S/4HANA brownfield migration projects; the posting also requests at least 2–3 brownfield implementations.
- Hands-on ABAP skills and hands-on code remediation experience.
- Practical experience with SAP BTP services such as SAP Integration Suite, Extension Suite, or BTP ABAP Environment.
- Expertise in CDS Views, OData services, AMDP, and SAP Clean Core development principles.
- Technical understanding of S/4HANA PP, QM, and MM tables and logic.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail for work in a highly regulated industry.
- Collaborative ability to work across global, distributed technical teams and with a customer who may have a strong personality.
- Strong organization, documentation, planning, and leadership skills, while remaining hands-on technically.
- US citizenship or specific regional security clearances may be required due to ITAR regulations and defense contract restrictions.
Nice To Haves
- S/4HANA brownfield migration experience and code remediation experience (also stated as a requirement elsewhere in the posting).
- PMMO (Project Manufacturing Management & Optimization) experience; strongly preferred.
- Prior shop-floor experience developing code to interact with MES or SAP MII/ME layers; SCADA experience is excluded.
- SAP BTP certification.
- SAP ABAP Development certification.
- SAP Fiori and UI5 development experience.
- Agile and Scrum delivery methodology experience.
Responsibilities
- Develop, optimize, and maintain interfaces using OData services, CDS Views, and AMDP to connect S/4HANA with SAP MII and SAP ME.
- Design and build clean-core extensions, APIs, and integration flows on SAP BTP to orchestrate data between S/4HANA and shop-floor solutions.
- Create custom ABAP objects, User Exits, BADIs, and Enhancement Spots within S/4HANA manufacturing modules, using RAP or modern extensibility frameworks.
- Troubleshoot, profile, and optimize ABAP code and S/4HANA database queries for high-volume, real-time data transmissions.
- Ensure custom code, BTP applications, and data structures comply with defense-specific requirements, including ITAR data segregation and secure cloud standards.
- Work with lead functional consultants to turn technical specifications into secure, scalable S/4HANA ABAP and BTP solutions.
- Support global upgrades and implementation of the digital manufacturing platform and the transition from ECC to S/4HANA and SAP BTP.
- Plan and document technical work and take the lead while remaining hands-on with development.
