About The Position

The Senior Salesforce Engineer will spend most of their time writing code and will develop, maintain, and modernize an established Salesforce platform supporting live logistics operations. The role works across Lightning Web Components, Aura Components, Visualforce, and Apex, tracing issues through user-interface, Apex, and integration layers while maintaining reliability and data integrity. The position builds and modernizes internal operations and dispatch tools; delivers new capabilities in Lightning Web Components; and refactors legacy Aura Components and Visualforce pages. It designs and maintains integrations, including custom Apex REST endpoints, and owns business-critical asynchronous Apex jobs. The engineer also develops scalable data models and record-visibility architecture, writes comprehensive automated tests, follows Git-based workflows and code reviews, and supports production reliability. The role collaborates with technical leads, business analysts, and stakeholders to translate operational requirements into scalable designs. It is hybrid, with in-office work every Thursday in Elmhurst, Illinois, and only candidates local to the Chicagoland area will be considered.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of hands-on Salesforce development experience, with most of that time spent writing Apex, building custom UI, and architecting solutions.
  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer I certification.
  • Advanced Apex and data-modeling expertise, including SOQL/SOSL, enterprise trigger-handler frameworks, bulkification, and asynchronous design.
  • Proven experience building and maintaining custom REST integrations on both inbound and outbound sides, including Named Credentials, JSON/XML serialization, OAuth 2.0, and fault-tolerant error handling.
  • Extensive Lightning Web Components experience and practical ability to read, maintain, and refactor Aura Components and Visualforce.
  • Thorough knowledge of Salesforce sharing architecture, record-level security, Large Data Volumes, and CPU/heap governor-limit optimization.
  • Experience with Git-based branch workflows, Salesforce CLI (sf), metadata/source-format deployments, and resolving merge or deployment conflicts.
  • Clear technical writing skills for documentation, pull requests, and architectural discussions.
  • Local to the Chicagoland area and able to work in the Elmhurst office every Thursday.

Nice To Haves

  • Salesforce Certified Platform Developer II, Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder, or Salesforce Certified System Architect or Application Architect credentials.
  • Experience safely introducing developer productivity tools, including AI-assisted coding and IDE tooling, and exploring Salesforce AI features such as Agentforce and Prompt Builder.
  • Familiarity with healthcare/HIPAA compliance, PHI access controls, or logistics/transportation operations.

Responsibilities

  • Build and modernize internal tools used by operations and dispatch.
  • Develop Lightning Web Components and strategically refactor legacy Aura Components and Visualforce pages.
  • Design, build, and maintain high-throughput integrations, including consuming external services and exposing custom Apex REST endpoints for internal systems.
  • Own Batch, Queueable, and Schedulable Apex jobs; keep them within governor limits and implement retry and error-handling patterns.
  • Guide migration of legacy automations to Flow or modern Apex.
  • Build scalable data models and manage granular record visibility using Apex Managed Sharing and programmatic sharing rules; tune performance at scale.
  • Learn and use existing CI/CD, branching, and automated-testing practices, and help evaluate and integrate developer tooling and Salesforce platform features where valuable.
  • Write comprehensive unit tests with meaningful assertions and robust mock frameworks.
  • Use modern Git-based workflows, automated validation, and peer code reviews.
  • Choose Flow and native configuration where appropriate and Apex when performance, scale, or maintainability requires it.
  • Diagnose production issues such as debug-log errors, governor-limit exceptions, and integration timeouts, and address root causes.
  • Collaborate with technical leads, business analysts, and stakeholders to turn operational needs into scalable technical designs and constructively challenge approaches that will not scale.
