Senior Radar Algorithms Engineer

Echodyne Corp•Kirkland, WA

About The Position

Echodyne is seeking a Senior Radar Algorithms Engineer to advance the performance and capabilities of its current and future radar systems. The role focuses on researching, designing, and developing radar algorithms, from concept and simulation through system validation. The engineer will use simulation and real-world data to develop solutions in areas such as clutter mitigation, interference suppression, and field calibration. The position is part of a small, collaborative radar algorithms team and involves close partnership with experts in antennas, electrical engineering, software engineering, and data analysis. The successful candidate will help translate new algorithmic approaches into high-performing radar systems, using radar phenomenology, models, and simulations to improve sensing performance.

Requirements

  • Deep understanding of radar systems, including waveform design, signal processing, and system-level architecture.
  • Strong background in radar signal processing for LFM high gain and analog beam-forming.
  • Strong proficiency in MATLAB and/or Python for simulation and algorithm prototyping.
  • Practical understanding of electromagnetics, antennas, wave propagation, and classical mechanics.
  • Demonstrated ability to take a problem statement through to an algorithm prototype.
  • Experience collaborating across hardware and software disciplines.
  • Proficiency with modern software development practices, including source control, testing, and documentation.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Math, or a related field with 5+ years of experience; alternatively, a master's degree with 4+ years or a Ph.D. with 2+ years.

Nice To Haves

  • Strong mathematical foundation, including statistical signal processing, estimation theory, and linear algebra.
  • Experience with multi-sensor or multi-radar coexistence, frequency management, or cognitive radar concepts.
  • Experience with sensor fusion, tracking, or state estimation, such as Kalman filtering.
  • Familiarity with object detection and classification using radar data.
  • Experience with embedded systems, real-time signal processing, or RTOS environments.
  • Exposure to IMU/GPS integration or motion compensation techniques.
  • Experience with instrument control and automated test systems.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the design, simulation, and prototyping of advanced radar signal-processing and control algorithms for FMCW and pulsed radar systems.
  • Develop MATLAB and Python simulations to design, test, and evaluate algorithms for radar performance, clutter suppression, interference mitigation, and system control.
  • Analyze radar data to characterize performance, identify failure modes, and guide algorithmic and system-level improvements.
  • Collaborate with Electromagnetics, Electrical Engineering, Software, and Data teams to account for hardware and environmental constraints and ensure correct production implementation.
  • Support bring-up and verification of next-generation radar hardware and signal-processing chains.
  • Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical mentorship across the algorithms team.
  • Document and communicate algorithm design rationale, performance results, and system implications across technical teams.
