About The Position

Leidos’ Defense Open Air Sensors Division is seeking a Radar Algorithms Deputy Team Lead to help develop solutions to complex sensor- and radar-oriented problems. The role leads a small team of approximately five engineers working on one or more program sub-tasks and is responsible for cost, schedule, and some earned-value analysis. The current team lead will mentor the successful candidate; the posting covers a range of experience levels and emphasizes a strong foundation in radar principles, ownership, and willingness to learn. The position leads research and development of digital signal processing algorithms, radar concepts, modeling and simulation, and system verification activities related to radar performance. It also involves technical mentorship, customer engagement, technical briefings, proposal support, coordination with other program leads, and support for deployment of advanced sensor systems. The position is based in the Huntsville–North Alabama area and is not remote.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an ABET-accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering or a related technical field and 8–12 years of relevant experience, or a master’s degree in the same fields and 6–10 years of relevant experience.
  • Technical understanding of radar signal processing and some project-management skill; a strong desire and ability to learn, extreme ownership, and a solid foundation in core radar principles are also emphasized.
  • Demonstrated experience understanding, evaluating, and implementing published scientific literature, such as IEEE publications.
  • Demonstrated experience leading small radar modeling or algorithm-development efforts in a DoD context with a technical team of three to five or more engineers, while responsible for cost and schedule.
  • Strong understanding of core radar principles, including the radar range equation, signal-processing techniques, digital beamforming, and tracking.
  • Experience using MATLAB, Python, or similar scientific programming tools to implement mathematical or scientific phenomenology related to linear systems, digital signal processing, tracking, or electromagnetics.
  • Ability to create design documentation, requirements specifications, and other technical documentation.
  • Good communication skills for collaboration and interaction with customers and other stakeholders.
  • Must reside in the North Alabama area or be willing to relocate to Huntsville–North Alabama, Alabama.
  • Must possess an active SECRET clearance and be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience estimating engineering effort for modeling, simulation, or algorithm-development tasks and tracking progress using an Integrated Master Schedule.
  • Experience with EVMS reporting and analysis or related program-management concepts.
  • Experience with digital array radar systems, including AESA or PESA.
  • Prior experience as an IPT lead or deputy on DoD programs greater than $50 million.
  • Relevant publications in the listed technology areas.
  • Active TOP SECRET clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a small team of approximately five engineers working on one or more program sub-tasks, with responsibility for cost and schedule and some earned-value analysis.
  • Manage the Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) for assigned sub-tasks.
  • Lead research and development of advanced digital signal processing (DSP) algorithms.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for radar-performance system verification, including analysis, test planning, and execution.
  • Lead development of new radar concepts, including modeling and simulation of RF designs and assessment of overall capability.
  • Perform high-fidelity radar and RF modeling, simulation, and analysis, and develop and maintain related tool features.
  • Mentor junior engineers in signal processing, tracking, radar systems engineering, RF modeling, and customer communication.
  • Read and understand radar whitepapers supporting advanced radar capabilities.
  • Prepare and deliver technical briefings to government customers and program leadership.
  • Serve routinely as a forward-facing point of contact to the end customer.
  • Support proposal development and technical volume writing for follow-on efforts.
  • Coordinate with other IPT leads to ensure technical integration across the program.
  • Support CONUS and OCONUS deployment of advanced sensor systems.
