Senior QMS Engineer

Anduril•Fort Collins, CO

About The Position

Anduril’s Quality organization is seeking a Senior QMS Engineer to own and advance the quality management system for Battlespace Awareness (BA). The Quality team works with customers, internal teams, and suppliers to ensure reliable products meet mission requirements, while developing quality processes and methods that support scalable, long-term business success. BA operates a certified ISO 9001 quality management system and is working to continuously improve it, harmonize it with Anduril’s enterprise QMS, and transition to AS9100. The role serves as a primary representative of the QMS to auditors, customers, and the production floor. This position combines QMS ownership with hands-on product quality work, including supplier and special-process oversight, first article inspection, nonconforming material and MRB, and investigation of field escapes. The role may suit someone seeking to grow toward Product Quality Engineering or a product quality professional seeking greater systems depth. The successful candidate will use QMS standards, data analysis, and continuous improvement to shape procedures, metrics, and quality culture. The role owns BA’s QMS processes, planning, internal and supplier audit programs, certification cycle, quality KPIs, document and record control, training, and continuous improvement roadmap. It also partners with product quality, manufacturing, Supply Chain, Supplier Quality, Production, and Operations to improve product quality and prepare new products and sites for QMS requirements. Expected travel is 20% of the time. U.S. Person status is required because the position needs access to export-controlled data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and 8+ years of experience in aerospace and/or defense manufacturing.
  • Deep working knowledge of QMS requirements and auditing in a complex product environment, specifically AS9100D and ISO 9001:2015; equivalent depth in AS9110C, AS9120B, IATF 16949, or ISO 13485 will be considered.
  • Trained AS9100D internal auditor, or ability to complete certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Demonstrated ownership of a corrective action system, beyond participation in individual investigations.
  • Working knowledge of design, development, manufacturing, supply chain, deployment, contracts, and other functions involved in company-wide audits.
  • Knowledge of ERP, PLM, and BI systems and ability to build quality reporting from them.
  • Experience working with DCMA, DFARs, and other government and defense programs and requirements.
  • Experience with ESD, FOD, and counterfeit programs, and working knowledge of tools such as GIDEP, FAR, and ASSIST.
  • Strong ownership mindset and demonstrated ability to drive projects from start to completion.
  • Proven track record of QMS implementation and success.
  • U.S. Person status is required because the role needs access to export-controlled data.
  • Expected travel of 20% of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Certification as an AS9100 lead auditor.
  • One or more ASQ certifications: CQE, CRE, CMQ/OE, or CQA.
  • Product-side quality experience, such as first article inspection (AS9102), MRB, PFMEA, control plans, or field failure investigation, or a clear interest in growing into product quality.
  • Experience with low-volume, highly complex manufacturing.
  • Experience harmonizing an acquired site’s QMS into a parent company’s system.

Responsibilities

  • Own BA’s quality management system and top-level processes, keeping procedures, work instructions, and records current, compliant, and in use.
  • Serve as the primary QMS process owner supporting the designated management representative under AS9100D §5.3.
  • Lead QMS planning, including quality objectives, risk and opportunity management, and the Management Review cycle; prepare inputs, run reviews, track outputs, and close actions before the next cycle.
  • Own the internal audit program, including the annual schedule covering QMS processes, auditor qualification and scheduling, auditor independence, audit execution, and verified closure of findings.
  • Own the supplier and external provider audit program under AS9100D §8.4, including risk-based schedules, qualification and re-qualification surveys, on-site and remote audits, and supplier corrective actions through verified closure.
  • Partner with Supply Chain and Supplier Quality on supplier selection, approved supplier list maintenance, and performance escalation.
  • Support first article inspection under AS9102, nonconforming material and MRB disposition, and field-escape investigations in partnership with Product Quality Engineering.
  • Manage the registrar relationship and certification cycle, including surveillance and recertification scheduling, scope changes, and timely responses to nonconformities.
  • Coordinate and participate in customer audits, including government and private-company audits, and prepare responses.
  • Own BA quality KPIs: define and report them monthly to site and division leadership, investigate adverse trends, and drive improvement actions.
  • Build dashboards and reporting that make quality performance visible without manual assembly.
  • Conduct recurring 6S and FOD audits on the production floor, including scoring, trending, and closing findings with Production and Operations.
  • Maintain ESD and counterfeit-parts prevention programs under AS9100D §8.1.4 as part of production-floor audits.

  • Build and deliver QMS training packages and maintain training records with managers of affected personnel.
  • Partner with product quality and manufacturing engineers during new product development to prepare new products and sites to meet QMS requirements, develop capabilities, and conduct internal audits before manufacturing and production readiness reviews.
  • Develop the internal QMS roadmap for tools and capabilities as the company scales, including harmonization of BA’s QMS with Anduril enterprise procedures.
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities benefiting the QMS and product quality.
  • Support investigations, initiatives, and projects as needed at the team or organization level.
