About The Position

OnlineDoctor is a telemedicine company that connects patients with dermatologists for remote, asynchronous diagnoses and treatment plans. The Senior QA Engineer takes ownership of verification and testing for the company’s medical-device product, including its web application across desktop and mobile browsers and its backend services. The role combines hands-on manual and automated testing, with responsibility for deciding what requires human judgment, what should be automated, and how to prioritize testing according to risk. The position is part of the Product & Tech team and operates in a healthcare environment where reliability, privacy, and evidence that critical functionality performs as intended are essential. The successful candidate will establish the testing approach, maintain effective test infrastructure and traceability, and provide clear information about test results, risks, and release readiness. Quality and release decisions remain a shared responsibility with the wider team. Within the first 6–12 months, the role is expected to establish a risk-based testing approach, identify and prioritize coverage gaps, strengthen manual and automated testing, improve test environments and representative test data, maintain medical-device verification records, and help the team detect defects earlier and reduce avoidable production failures.

Requirements

  • Strong hands-on experience in manual testing and test automation, including ownership of testing for a product or major product area and maintenance of reliable automated test suites.
  • Sound judgment in defining risk-based testing approaches and deciding what to test, at which level, and why.
  • Experience testing web applications and APIs, including authentication, permissions, integrations, and failure scenarios.
  • Ability to investigate problems across the application stack and collaborate effectively with developers on fixes.
  • Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD workflows and making test results actionable.
  • Experience selecting testing tools and establishing or maintaining test case management processes that keep requirements, coverage, and results traceable.
  • A detail-oriented, pragmatic, and independent approach, strong communication skills, and the ability to follow issues through to resolution.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with the company’s technology stack: AWS, CircleCI, Python, pytest, React, Jest, and Playwright.
  • Experience using AI in testing or engineering work, such as generating or prioritizing test cases, analyzing failures, or building test tooling, with a clear understanding of its limits and the verification needed for medical-device software.
  • Experience testing products in healthcare or other environments with demanding privacy, security, or quality requirements.
  • Experience designing test data and environments for complex integrations or sensitive information.
  • Experience coaching engineers on testability and contributing to a broader quality culture.

Responsibilities

  • Define a risk-based testing approach, set coverage targets, identify gaps, and provide evidence-based recommendations on release readiness.
  • Plan and conduct exploratory testing and risk-based regression testing for new features, integrations, and critical user journeys.
  • Work with the Product Owner and engineers early in development to clarify requirements, edge cases, usability, accessibility, and testability.
  • Build and maintain reliable automated API, integration, and end-to-end tests, selecting appropriate testing levels and integrating checks into CI/CD.
  • Establish and maintain test environments, representative test data, and reporting to support day-to-day testing.
  • Verify medical-device functionality against agreed requirements and acceptance criteria, maintaining clear verification evidence.
  • Investigate defects, communicate their impact, and collaborate with engineers to address root causes and prevent recurring issues.
  • Maintain a practical test case management system that keeps test cases current and links requirements, tests, results, defects, and verification evidence.
  • Own the testing approach and work with the wider team to make well-tested changes the norm.

Benefits

  • Choice to work remotely or from an office in Hamburg or St. Gallen.
  • Flexible schedule and working-time model.
  • Support for personal and professional development through regular retrospectives, inspiration sessions, and advanced training.
  • Regular team events.
  • Attractive salary.
  • Choice of laptop.
  • Home office allowance.
  • Additional vacation day.
