About The Position

Mott MacDonald is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer to provide technical leadership for pipeline and facilities engineering projects across North America. This role is suited to an experienced engineer with a strong background in natural gas transmission, gathering systems, compressor stations, metering facilities, storage, LNG, RNG, hydrogen, carbon capture, and related energy infrastructure. The successful candidate will serve as a senior technical leader responsible for guiding engineering teams, ensuring technical excellence, mentoring developing engineers, supporting project delivery, and helping clients solve complex engineering challenges throughout the project lifecycle. This role is ideally suited for an engineer who combines deep technical expertise with strong communication, collaboration, and leadership skills and who is passionate about developing both people and engineering solutions that support the future of energy infrastructure.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • 10+ years of experience delivering natural gas, liquids, hydrogen, LNG, RNG, and/or energy infrastructure projects.
  • Experience supporting interstate pipeline projects and regulatory processes, including FERC and PHMSA requirements.
  • Strong understanding of pipeline design, facility engineering, project delivery, and construction practices.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Strong project delivery, client management, and communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support business development and proposal efforts.

Nice To Haves

  • Established relationships with pipeline operators, midstream companies, utilities, and energy developers.
  • Familiarity with digital engineering tools, project delivery systems, and engineering data platforms
  • Strong knowledge of: ASME B31.4, ASME B31.8, API standards, PHMSA regulations, Industry best practices

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a senior technical lead for pipeline and facilities engineering projects.
  • Provide engineering leadership throughout project development, FEED, detailed design, construction support, commissioning, and startup activities.
  • Establish technical approaches and engineering strategies for major project assignments.
  • Review and approve engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications, design documentation, and construction deliverables.
  • Support development and implementation of engineering standards, best practices, and quality management processes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for pipeline and facilities infrastructure.
  • Partner closely with Project Managers to support successful delivery of engineering services.
  • Support development of project execution plans, engineering schedules, staffing plans, and delivery strategies.
  • Identify and manage technical risks throughout project execution.
  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, constructability reviews, value engineering workshops, and risk assessments.
  • Provide technical support during construction, commissioning, startup, and operational readiness activities.
  • Assist with technical issue resolution and engineering decision-making.
  • Develop trusted relationships with client engineering teams and technical stakeholders.
  • Participate in technical workshops, engineering reviews, design presentations, and project meetings.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to clients throughout project development and execution.
  • Support identification of innovative solutions that improve safety, reliability, constructability, and project performance.
  • Support strategic pursuits, proposals, interviews, and technical presentations.
  • Develop technical approaches, execution strategies, and engineering estimates for major opportunities.
  • Help position Mott MacDonald's engineering capabilities across pipeline, facilities, and energy infrastructure projects.
  • Contribute thought leadership and technical expertise to support continued growth of the Energy business.
  • Mentor developing engineers, designers, and technical specialists.
  • Support technical training, knowledge sharing, and professional development programs.
  • Participate in recruitment, onboarding, and development of future engineering talent.
  • Promote a culture of technical excellence, innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Support advancement of engineering tools, methodologies, digital delivery approaches, and technical standards.
