Senior Product Manager, Platform

Avathon•Pleasanton, CA

About The Position

Avathon is hiring a Senior Product Manager in Product Engineering to own its industrial AI platform—the foundational layers used by its applications. The role covers data ingestion and connectors for IT and OT systems, the ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph, the Model Hub for ML and LLM models, and the agentic AI layer. The goal is to establish a clear platform roadmap so applications and customers can build on the platform with less custom work, rather than setting priorities reactively around individual deployments. This is a product management role, not a customer delivery role. The position owns platform vision, roadmap, and prioritization; tracks the competitive landscape; defines connector priorities and platform contracts; and works with application teams, forward deployed engineers, partners, customers, security, and cloud operations. The Senior Product Manager will also define requirements and acceptance criteria, coordinate sprint planning and release reviews with the engineering lead, balance platform investment against near-term customer needs, and create documentation and enablement materials. The role is based in the Bay Area, California. It is not remote, and the employee is expected to work onsite at Avathon’s Pleasanton office five days per week. The annual salary range is $140,000–$180,000, with pay varying based on factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience.
  • At least 4 years owning a data, ML, developer, or platform product.
  • Deep understanding of data integration, data modeling and ontologies, and ML or LLM operations.
  • Technical ability to go deep with platform engineers on APIs, data models, and architecture.
  • Strong written communication, including the ability to explain platform decisions to engineers and customer executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at Palantir, C3 AI, Databricks, Snowflake, Cognite, or a hyperscaler AI or data platform team such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Microsoft.
  • Exposure to industrial data, including OT systems, historians, SCADA, or ERP.
  • Master’s degree or MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, roadmap, and priorities for platform ingestion and connectors, ontology and knowledge graph, Model Hub, and agent layer.
  • Understand competing platforms, including Palantir Foundry and AIP, C3 AI, Databricks, Cognite, and hyperscaler AI platforms, and define Avathon’s strengths in industrial settings.
  • Prioritize connectors across OT protocols and systems, including OPC-UA, DNP3, MQTT, and historians, and IT systems such as SAP and Oracle.
  • Define the platform contracts that Planning, Logistics, PLM, asset performance, and vision applications build on.
  • Treat application teams, forward deployed engineers, and partners as platform customers and identify what slows them down.
  • Work with customers on ontology discovery and how their data should be modeled.
  • Work with security and cloud operations on SaaS, customer-cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped edge deployment models.
  • Track platform adoption and value, including time to first data, connector reuse, and time to deploy a model.
  • Write requirements and acceptance criteria for platform engineering and AI science.
  • Run sprint planning and release reviews with the engineering lead.
  • Balance platform investment against near-term customer needs and communicate trade-offs clearly.
  • Build developer documentation, release notes, and enablement for internal teams and partners.
