Avathon•Pleasanton, CA
•$140,000 - $180,000•Onsite

About The Position

Avathon is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own its industrial AI platform—the layers underlying its applications. The platform includes data ingestion and connectors for IT and OT systems, an ontology and Computational Knowledge Graph, a Model Hub for ML and LLM models, and an agentic AI layer. The role will establish a clear platform roadmap and reduce the custom work required for applications and customers to build on the platform. This is a product management role in Product Engineering, not a customer delivery role. The Product Manager will define platform strategy and priorities, understand the competitive landscape, and determine how the platform serves industrial applications. They will work with application teams, forward deployed engineers, partners, customers, security, and cloud operations to uncover needs, shape data models and deployment approaches, and measure platform adoption and value. They will also partner with engineering and AI science teams on requirements, delivery planning, trade-offs, documentation, and enablement. The role is based in the Bay Area, California, and is not remote. The employee is expected to work from Avathon’s Pleasanton office five days a week. The stated annual salary range is $140,000–$180,000, with pay varying based on geographic location and job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product management experience.
  • At least 4 years owning a data, ML, developer, or platform product.
  • Deep understanding of data integration, data modeling and ontologies, and ML or LLM operations.
  • Technical ability to work in depth with platform engineers on APIs, data models, and architecture.
  • Strong written communication skills, including the ability to explain platform decisions to engineers and customer executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at Palantir, C3 AI, Databricks, Snowflake, Cognite, or a hyperscaler AI or data platform team such as Google Cloud, AWS, or Microsoft.
  • Exposure to industrial data, including OT systems, historians, SCADA, or ERP.
  • MS or MBA.

Responsibilities

  • Own the vision, roadmap, and priorities for data ingestion and connectors, ontology and knowledge graph, Model Hub, and the agent layer.
  • Understand the competitive market, including Palantir Foundry and AIP, C3 AI, Databricks, Cognite, and hyperscaler AI platforms, and clarify Avathon’s strengths in industrial settings.
  • Prioritize connectors across OT protocols and systems, including OPC-UA, DNP3, MQTT, and historians, and IT systems such as SAP and Oracle.
  • Define platform contracts used by Planning, Logistics, PLM, asset performance, and vision applications.
  • Treat application teams, forward deployed engineers, and partners as platform customers and understand what slows them down.
  • Work with customers on ontology discovery and how their data should be modeled.
  • Work with security and cloud operations on SaaS, customer-cloud, on-premise, and air-gapped edge deployment models.
  • Track platform adoption and value, including time to first data, connector reuse, and time to deploy a model.
  • Write requirements and acceptance criteria for platform engineering and AI science.
  • Run sprint planning and release reviews with the engineering lead.
  • Make and clearly communicate trade-offs between platform investment and near-term customer needs.
  • Build developer documentation, release notes, and enablement for internal teams and partners.
