•$182,900 - $228,600•Hybrid

About The Position

Planet is seeking a mission-driven Senior Product Manager for the Solutions Crafting pod within the Solution Enablement Group. The role bridges Planet’s platform capabilities and customer outcomes by identifying high-value market problems and working with Engineering to turn them into scalable, reusable technical building blocks. The goal is to move Planet from selling raw data to delivering measurable value in verticals such as Defense & Intelligence, Civil Government, and Commercial. This is a full-time, hybrid position requiring work from Planet’s San Francisco office three days per week. The role works closely with Engineering, Data Science, Product Marketing, Sales, external partners, and government agencies.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of relevant work experience in product management, ideally in Earth Observation or geospatial analytics.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Experience launching solution products that bundle data, analytics, and services rather than only standalone features.
  • Ability to translate complex vertical needs into clear engineering tasks and user outcomes.
  • Solid understanding of vertical market dynamics, such as government procurement and supply chains, and experience assessing market size and viability.
  • Experience managing end-to-end product lifecycles and navigating ambiguity in fast-paced environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Earth Observation data or heavy analytical data streams.
  • Background in Solution Engineering or Technical Consulting before moving into Product Management.

Responsibilities

  • Lead customer discovery and feasibility studies to validate high-value use cases in Civil Government, Commercial, and Defense & Intelligence, grounding development in addressable market needs.
  • Partner with Engineering and Data Science to translate complex vertical requirements into technical specifications, user stories, and prioritized backlog items.
  • Serve as the pod’s primary Engineering liaison, managing sprint planning and backlog grooming while balancing feature delivery and technical debt.
  • Define and deliver reusable building blocks within the Planet Platform to scale solutions across customers rather than create one-off products.
  • Work with Product Marketing and Sales to package technical capabilities into clear business narratives that demonstrate ROI to non-technical buyers.
  • Build relationships with external partners and government agencies to identify collaboration and scaling opportunities.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision plans.
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) with a company contribution.
  • Generous paid time off, holidays, and company-wide days off.
  • 16 weeks of paid parental leave.
  • Wellness Program and Employee Assistance Program (EAP).
  • Home office reimbursement.
  • Monthly phone and internet reimbursement.
  • Tuition reimbursement and access to LinkedIn Learning.
  • Equity.
  • Commuter benefits for employees local to an office.
  • Paid volunteering time off.
