About The Position

Planet is seeking a mission-driven Senior Product Manager for the Solutions Crafting pod within its Solution Enablement Group. The role bridges Planet’s platform capabilities and specific customer outcomes, identifying high-value market problems and working with Engineering to turn them into scalable, reusable technical building blocks. The goal is to help Planet move from selling raw data to delivering measurable value in key verticals, including Defense & Intelligence, Civil Government, and Commercial.

This full-time, hybrid role requires working from Planet’s San Francisco office three days per week. The Product Manager will lead customer discovery and feasibility studies, translate vertical requirements into technical specifications, and guide prioritization and delivery with Engineering and Data Science. The role also partners with Product Marketing and Sales to communicate business value, and works with external partners and government agencies to identify opportunities for collaboration and scale.

Requirements

• 10+ years of relevant work experience in product management, ideally within Earth Observation or geospatial analytics.
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
• Experience launching solution products that bundle data, analytics, and services rather than only standalone features.
• Ability to translate complex vertical needs into clear engineering tasks and user outcomes.
• Solid understanding of vertical market dynamics, such as government procurement and supply chains, and experience assessing market size and viability.
• Experience managing end-to-end product lifecycles and navigating ambiguity in fast-paced environments.

Nice To Haves

• Experience with Earth Observation data or heavy analytical data streams.
• A background in Solution Engineering or Technical Consulting prior to Product Management.

Responsibilities

• Lead customer discovery and feasibility studies to validate high-value use cases in Civil Government, Commercial, and Defense & Intelligence.
• Partner with Engineering and Data Science to translate complex vertical requirements into technical specifications, user stories, and prioritized backlog items.
• Act as the primary Engineering liaison for the pod, managing sprint planning and backlog grooming while balancing feature delivery with technical debt.
• Define and deliver reusable building blocks within the Planet Platform to scale solutions across multiple customers rather than creating one-off products.
• Collaborate with Product Marketing and Sales to package technical capabilities into clear business narratives demonstrating ROI to non-technical buyers.
• Build relationships with external partners and government agencies to identify collaboration and scaling opportunities.
