Senior Product Manager, Access Management

Verkada•San Mateo, CA
•$185,000 - $215,000•Onsite

About The Position

Verkada is hiring a Senior Product Manager to own access management end to end: users, identities, groups, policies, requests, access levels, and visitor access, from an administrator’s intent through to the door opening for the right person. The role spans web and mobile interfaces, backend services, configuration pushed to door hardware, and the API and agent surfaces. The product aims to make access management simpler at enterprise scale through intuitive interfaces, integrations and APIs that automate administration, and agents that can interpret an administrator’s intent. The position works with a dedicated designer, engineering manager, and engineering team, and is based onsite at Verkada’s headquarters in San Mateo, California. The product area includes the access model and administrator experience; identity-provider and HR-system provisioning and integrations; natural-language agents and safety guardrails; proactive security insights; and audit and compliance reporting. The role sets multi-year product direction, establishes administrator personas and jobs to be done, and raises product-management standards across the access-control group. The Senior Product Manager owns customer discovery, strategy and roadmap prioritization, prototyping, cross-functional partnership, execution from specification through launch, product positioning with marketing and sales, and ongoing awareness of the competitive and identity ecosystems. The role balances immediate customer learning and upcoming launches with planning across longer time horizons.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of product management experience.
  • Currently operating at Lead- or Group-level scope, with ownership of a product area and responsibility for setting its direction.
  • Experience with B2B software used by administrators at scale and a track record of building and scaling complex enterprise products.
  • Experience relevant to permissions, identity, provisioning, policy, configuration-heavy administrative tools, or products where one person’s settings determine what thousands of others can do.
  • Ability to partner substantively with designers: write problem briefs rather than prescriptive solutions, explain design quality, and both influence and be influenced by design partners.
  • Ability to discuss architecture and technical tradeoffs deeply with engineers and explain them clearly to customers and executives.
  • Ownership of an ongoing customer cadence and examples of customer insight changing a plan already in progress.
  • Ability to explain a real prioritization and sequencing decision, including criteria, what was dropped, and who objected.
  • Ability to envision the big picture while managing details.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including leading with recommendations, making tradeoffs explicit, and communicating concisely.
  • Willingness to get hands-on and visit customer sites to understand pain points.
  • Ability to prototype, including during the interview process.

Responsibilities

  • Own the access-management model, including users, groups, credentials, access levels, door associations, and schedules.
  • Own web and mobile administrative interfaces, including scalable bulk operations, search, and review flows.
  • Own visitor access, including guest invitations, credentials, and expiration.
  • Own access-management APIs and integrations so identity-provider and HR-system changes can automatically handle joiners, movers, and leavers.
  • Partner with Verkada’s Core team on identity integration, including SCIM provisioning, SSO, directory sync, and mapping HR records to door access.
  • Define how agents support access management, enabling administrators to state intent and receive proposed configurations.
  • Define agent guardrails for physical-access changes, including review, attribution, and an undo path.
  • Build an evaluation framework for agent accuracy, escalation rates, and the safety of proposed changes before they are applied to doors.
  • Develop proactive security features to identify over-provisioned users, credentials that have outlived their purpose, and access patterns that do not match door sensitivity.
  • Own audit and compliance reporting so customers can demonstrate who had access to what and when.
  • Set multi-year access-management direction and make the case to engineering leadership and executives.
  • Define administrator personas and jobs to be done, and establish the framework for use across the organization.
  • Raise standards for research, writing, and decision-making among product managers in access control.
  • Conduct customer discovery directly with security administrators, including site walks and observing real-world badge use.
  • Set strategy and prioritize the roadmap, balancing reliability, new capabilities, and customer needs.
  • Build prototypes to explore and communicate product ideas.
  • Partner closely with engineering and design, combining technical depth with design judgment.
  • Drive execution from specification through launch with attention to detail.
  • Develop product pitches with marketing and sales and support field selling.
  • Monitor the competitive landscape, identity ecosystem, and market direction.
  • Balance customer learning, six- and twelve-month planning, and near-term launches.
