About The Position

Adyen is seeking a Senior Product Experience Designer for its Chicago office, focused on In-Person Payments (IPP) and Localized Payment Teams. The role bridges complex payment mechanics and hardware constraints with intuitive, polished user interfaces across payment terminal screens, mobile SDKs, and regional checkout flows around the world. The designer owns end-to-end experiences spanning in-person payment touchpoints and regional checkout adaptations across EMEA, LATAM, APAC, and North America. They partner with Product Managers and Engineering Leads from discovery through execution, translating technical and regulatory complexity into clear self-service experiences. The role also contributes to design systems, shares patterns across global and regional teams, and brings emerging methods and technologies—including AI and LLMs—into Adyen’s design practice. This is an office-first role based in Chicago, with employees expected to work in-office at least three days per week on average. The annual base salary range is $180,000–$250,000, with compensation dependent on qualifications, experience, and location. The total compensation package includes equity (RSUs), a 401(k), health, dental, vision, and more.

Requirements

  • A track record of driving impact across multiple product streams and solution areas.
  • Ability to work with senior business and technical stakeholders and translate complex user ecosystems and technical trade-offs into actionable narratives.
  • Strategic thinking and craft excellence, with the ability to lead through inspiration and architectural standards rather than hierarchy.
  • Ability to work in ambiguous problem spaces and turn organizational challenges into clear, scalable frameworks.

  • Lead interface design and visual craft, including screen layouts for compact terminal displays, merchant onboarding flows, and localized checkout components.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Engineering Leads from early discovery through execution, articulating design rationale while balancing hardware and API constraints with merchant and shopper usability.
  • Identify experience debt and usability bugs across high-traffic in-person payment and localized surfaces.
  • Apply and contribute to foundational design systems to support consistency, accessibility, and visual quality across devices and web interfaces.
  • Simplify complex payment configurations, including regional scheme rules, local tax IDs, terminal branding profiles, and offline transaction limits, through self-service interface interactions.
  • Connect in-person payment hardware teams, regional go-to-market teams, and global platform designers.
  • Document design patterns and share localized context to support global scalability and local relevance.
