About The Position

Adyen is seeking a Senior Product Experience Designer for its Chicago office to focus on In-Person Payments (IPP) and Localized Payment Teams. The designer will bridge complex payment mechanics and hardware constraints with intuitive, carefully crafted interfaces across payment terminal screens, mobile SDKs, and regional checkout flows worldwide. The role partners closely with Product Managers and Engineering Leads from discovery through execution, and connects IPP hardware teams, regional go-to-market teams, and global platform designers. The position also advances design methods and operational efficiency by exploring new tools and emerging technologies, including AI and LLMs. Adyen is an office-first company. Employees in this role are expected to work from the Chicago office at least three days per week on average.

Requirements

  • At least 6 years of experience designing complex, large-scale systems and framework-agnostic, end-to-end mobile products for iOS and Android.
  • A proven track record of driving impact across multiple product streams and solution areas.
  • Ability to work with senior business and technical stakeholders and translate complex user ecosystems and technical trade-offs into compelling, actionable narratives.
  • Strategic thinking and craft excellence, with the ability to lead through inspiration and architectural standards rather than hierarchy.
  • Ability to thrive when problems are undefined and turn organizational challenges into clear, scalable frameworks.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end user journeys across in-person payment touchpoints, including payment terminals, SoftPOS (Tap to Pay), mobile SDKs, and regional checkout adaptations across EMEA, LATAM, APAC, and North America.
  • Translate complex payment mechanics into clear, intuitive product experiences.
  • Lead interface design, including visual hierarchy, micro-interactions, screen layouts, merchant onboarding flows, and localized checkout components.
  • Partner with Product Managers and Engineering Leads from early discovery through execution, explaining design rationale while balancing technical, hardware, API, merchant, and shopper needs.
  • Identify experience debt and usability issues across high-traffic IPP and localized surfaces.
  • Apply and contribute to design systems to support consistency, accessibility, and visual quality across devices and web interfaces.
  • Simplify complex payment configurations, including regional scheme rules, local tax IDs, terminal branding profiles, and offline transaction limits, through self-serve interface interactions.
  • Connect IPP hardware teams, regional go-to-market teams, and global platform designers; document design patterns and share localized context to support global scalability and local relevance.
  • Lead industry scanning and bring new product experience methods, tools, and emerging technologies, especially AI and LLMs, into Adyen’s design framework and operations.
