About The Position

Camunda is seeking a Senior Product Designer to own the customer and agent experience across its headless products, including public APIs, CLIs, SDKs, and configuration. The role is focused on making the experience easy to take from first API call to production, reliable in operation, and designed as an interface that agents can use effectively. This is a senior role combining hands-on initiative work with the development of design principles and conventions that can be applied across teams. The role is split between strategy (30%) and initiative work (70%). The designer will shape headless experience standards across products, including API and developer-experience conventions, agent-facing surfaces, and ways to measure and test agent experience. In partnership with product managers, engineering, FDE, Marketing, Legal, and the UI/UX product designer, the role will help ensure that UI and headless experiences form a coherent product. The designer will also enable builders through tools, training, guidance, and feedback on epics. Expected outcomes during the first 6 to 12 months include a clear and adopted definition of a high-quality headless experience; measurable progress on Time to First Production for assigned initiatives; a well-defined working interface with the UI/UX product designer; and APIs and tools that agents can discover, call, and recover from errors in, with measurable task success rates.

Requirements

  • Design background with real experience in API, developer, or platform products; this is not a pure engineering role.
  • B2B SaaS experience.
  • Experience designing APIs, CLIs, MCP servers, or tool schemas consumed by LLM agents, with understanding of failure modes such as ambiguous errors, non-idempotent calls, and undiscoverable capabilities.
  • Hands-on experience with agent-first or AI-first experiences.
  • Ability to make abstract systems concrete, testable, and explainable.
  • Confidence to hold one's ground with product managers and engineering.
  • Ability and/or willingness to use Camunda's product.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in highly regulated industries.
  • Automation or orchestration experience.
  • Experience evaluating agent experiences by running agent tasks against an API or tool and learning from failures.

Responsibilities

  • Own the headless experience across products as a coherent product with clear ownership and a consistent design standard.
  • Define and evolve API and developer-experience conventions, including patterns, consistency, error handling, and documentation standards.
  • Treat agent-facing surfaces—including MCP servers, tool descriptions, schemas, and CLI output—as designed products.
  • Define how agent experience is measured, including measures such as agent task success, error recovery, and tool-call efficiency, and test designs with agents and people.
  • Set standards for how agents discover and call APIs and tools and recover from errors.
  • Co-own assigned initiatives with the product manager and design their headless customer journeys from the first API call through production operation.
  • Focus initiative work on reducing Time to First Production and increasing confidence in production use.
  • Design agent journeys for building, running, and operating solutions on a user's behalf, including recovery from failed calls.
  • Work with the UI/UX product designer to align terminology, patterns, and journeys across UI and headless experiences.
  • Collaborate with Product, FDE, Marketing, and Legal on matters affecting the headless experience.
  • Enable builders with tools, training, guidance, and feedback on epics so API design quality does not depend on one person.
