Senior Product Designer

C1•Portland, OR

About The Position

C1.ai is building a horizontal identity platform that enables organizations and AI agents to connect systems and understand and manage access. The Senior Product Designer will work upstream, investigating customer problems and complex identity and access workflows before development begins. The role calls for turning research and exploration into clearly framed problems, product direction, design rationale, and context that engineers and AI agents can use to build confidently. The designer will own product areas from problem definition through launch and iteration, work closely with customers and cross-functional partners, and prototype at the fidelity best suited to answering each question. AI-assisted design and development are part of the team’s workflow; the designer will use AI tools, prototype in code, and ship small UI fixes and polish directly, with the opportunity to grow toward building larger features. The role is part of a small, high-output design team and partners with Design Engineers, who lead implementation and design-system ownership.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of product design experience, ideally with complex B2B or enterprise software.
  • Strong skills in research, problem framing, interaction design, information architecture, and visual craft.
  • High standards for design craft and attention to details such as spacing, motion, copy, edge cases, and empty states.
  • Enjoys customer conversations and can identify the underlying problem behind a request.
  • Uses AI tools in daily work and has opinions about what works.
  • Experience with agentic tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor, and an understanding of how clear thinking, context, and precise prompts support effective work with AI.
  • Interest in building and working closer to code, including enthusiasm for shipping small changes or building side projects with AI.
  • Solid Figma experience and fluency with the tool.
  • Comfort working with ambiguity and bringing structure to messy, technical problem spaces.
  • Clear written, verbal, and visual communication skills, with a tendency to share work early and often.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with identity, security, or infrastructure products.
  • Experience designing AI-native products or agentic experiences.
  • Basic working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and how modern front-end applications are put together.

Responsibilities

  • Own product areas from problem definition through launch and iteration across complex enterprise workflows.
  • Talk with customers regularly, conduct research, join sales and support calls, and translate what is learned into clear problem statements and product direction.
  • Explore problem spaces by mapping flows, sketching alternatives, pressure-testing ideas, and making the case for solutions.
  • Prototype at the fidelity that answers questions fastest, from sketches and design prototypes to working builds created with agentic coding tools.
  • Create specifications, decision records, and design rationale that provide useful context for engineers and AI agents.
  • Ship small UI fixes and polish directly using AI-assisted workflows, and potentially grow toward building larger pieces.
  • Contribute to the design system as a consumer and advocate, in partnership with Design Engineers who own implementation.
  • Communicate the reasoning behind design decisions clearly and publicly, sharing work early and often.
