About The Position

Via is hiring multiple Senior/Principal Product Designers to redesign its mission-critical public transit operations platform. The platform supports on-demand, paratransit, school bus, and fixed-line services for public agencies. The role focuses on making complex workflows insights-first, usable, and effective for the people who operate transit and the riders who depend on it, including people with disabilities and riders with limited alternatives. Designers will lead work across dispatch and booking, address rider eligibility and special conditions, and help shape how the design team uses AI—from research synthesis and concept exploration to rapid prototyping and production-ready code. The work is forward-deployed: designers spend time with agencies and engineers, validate ideas against real operations, and ship alongside the team. They partner across product, analytics, and engineering, conduct research and usability testing, make design tradeoffs explicit, and evolve the design system as the organization scales.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in digital product design.
  • A portfolio demonstrating leadership from concept to launch on complex products.
  • Systems-thinking ability and experience designing dense, data-rich, high-stakes workflows.
  • A point of view on how AI can change the design process and curiosity to continue exploring it.
  • Comfort prototyping beyond Figma and moving work toward production code, or a strong desire to learn.
  • Strong Figma and prototyping skills, with a high bar for craft.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to explain the reasoning behind design decisions.
  • Ownership, independence, and pragmatism about timelines, scope, and technical constraints.
  • Empathy for riders who depend on public transit and genuine interest in equitable mobility.
  • A degree in Design, HCI, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
