Principal Product Designer

VIA•Washington, DC
•$160,000 - $190,000•Remote

About The Position

As a Principal Product Designer at VIA, you will be embedded within the AI platform team and partner closely with the Design Team, Product Owners, and Engineering to own end-to-end design for complex, high-stakes systems. VIA’s products sit at the intersection of artificial intelligence, secure data exploration, and agentic workflows, serving environments where trust, precision, and data protection are essential. You will help define what VIA builds and how it works by translating sophisticated technical architectures and real-world customer challenges into intuitive, secure experiences. The role spans discovery, strategic problem framing, wireframing, high-fidelity execution, prototyping, documentation, and handoff. You will lead design across AI-native platforms, agentic workflows, collaborative data environments, and permission-controlled data sharing experiences. You will partner with stakeholders and Engineering to assess technical constraints and user value, influence roadmap direction, and establish scalable design patterns. You will also champion responsible use of AI in human-centered design and contribute to team growth through mentorship and design leadership.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of product design experience, including at least 3 years in complex enterprise or technical domains such as AI platforms, cybersecurity, identity, or data-intensive systems.
  • Technical fluency, including comfort working directly with Engineering, reading system architecture, and designing within real constraints.
  • Experience with agentic and collaborative workflows involving multiple users or agents interacting with shared state.
  • Ability to ask questions that uncover technical problems and user needs in high-stakes environments.
  • Proven ability to design complex workflows and security-focused systems where trust and precision are paramount.
  • Strong visual design sensibility and the ability to bring clarity and craft to complex technical interfaces.
  • Design leadership and mentorship skills, including championing design excellence and helping scale a team.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end UX/UI design across VIA’s product suite, including AI-native platforms, agentic workflow interfaces, collaborative data environments, and permission-controlled data sharing experiences.
  • Translate high-level workflows into low-fidelity mockups to reduce ambiguity and accelerate engineering iteration.
  • Design secure-by-default interaction patterns that make data visibility, access control, and sharing core UX considerations.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to evaluate tradeoffs between technical complexity and user value and influence roadmap direction.
  • Lead strategic design efforts for data-driven platforms, focusing on cohesive workflows and scalable systems rather than isolated screens.
  • Partner with Engineering to explore technical constraints, align on backend logic, and support execution of complex features.
  • Translate technical requirements and security constraints into clear, high-fidelity product concepts.
  • Move from strategy and wireframing through prototypes, component documentation, and UI copy.
  • Champion responsible use of AI in human-centered design and help refine VIA’s AI-first design efforts.
  • Establish and evolve design patterns and principles for consistency and scalability across VIA’s technology suite.
  • Mentor designers, refine internal processes, and elevate the quality of the team’s work.

Benefits

  • Up to 24 weeks of paid parental leave and a 4-week paid ramp-back program.
  • $10,000 family-forming benefit covering fertility treatments, adoption, and surrogacy.
  • Flexible Vacation Policy with no set annual limit or accrual period, Summer Fridays, and an extended December holiday period.
  • Flexible work-from-home options and access to three offices designed for collaboration.
  • Opportunity to work remotely from eligible locations for up to 2 months per year.
