About The Position

Teradyne’s Integrated Systems Test (IST) Hardware Engineering team is seeking a Senior Principal Hardware Engineer to provide technical leadership for the architecture and development of advanced electronic hardware and systems. The role combines deep technical expertise, broad engineering judgment, mentorship, and organizational technical leadership. The engineer will define and lead hardware architectures for major products, platforms, and technology initiatives; translate complex product and system requirements into practical, scalable architectures; and drive critical technical decisions across embedded computing, high-speed interfaces, power architecture, PCB technologies, system partitioning, reliability, manufacturability, and product lifecycle considerations. The role also leads the resolution of complex hardware and system-level problems across engineering disciplines, establishes technical direction for major programs, and provides guidance across hardware designs and development teams. The position leads architecture and design reviews, identifies and mitigates technical risks early, and partners with engineering leaders and cross-functional teams on system-level tradeoffs involving performance, cost, schedule, risk, and product strategy. It mentors senior engineers, improves engineering standards and development processes, evaluates emerging technologies for future products, and represents hardware engineering in major cross-functional technical decisions.

Requirements

Bachelor’s or advanced degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
Extensive experience developing complex electronic hardware and systems.
Demonstrated success architecting and technically leading major hardware development efforts.
Deep expertise in board-level and system-level electronic design, with broad knowledge across multiple hardware disciplines.
Expert engineering judgment and strong troubleshooting and root-cause-analysis capability.
Demonstrated ability to resolve complex technical challenges spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
Proven ability to establish technical direction and influence engineering decisions beyond an immediate project.
Demonstrated ability to mentor senior engineers and develop technical capability in others.
Excellent technical communication skills, including communicating complex engineering decisions, risks, and tradeoffs to technical and leadership audiences.
Demonstrated record of technical innovation, ownership, and successful product execution.

Responsibilities

Define and lead hardware architectures for major products, platforms, and technology initiatives.
Translate complex product and system requirements into practical, scalable hardware architectures.
Drive technical decisions involving embedded computing, high-speed interfaces, power architecture, PCB technologies, system partitioning, reliability, manufacturability, and product lifecycle considerations.
Lead resolution of complex hardware and system-level technical problems spanning multiple engineering disciplines.
