About The Position

Whirlpool Corporation is seeking a Senior Press Room Engineer for its Global Strategic Sourcing organization. The role is based onsite at the Marion Manufacturing facility and provides technical leadership, engineering oversight, and continuous-improvement direction across stamping and press room operations. Using World Class Manufacturing methodologies, the engineer drives operational excellence, equipment reliability, safety compliance, quality assurance, and scrap and cost reduction across high-tonnage mechanical and hydraulic presses, automated transfer and progressive dies, shear operations, and press automation systems. The position leads press-room engineering support and improvement work, including equipment and process problem-solving, WCM pillar initiatives, root-cause analysis, safety-risk reduction, quality and scrap improvement, and capital and automation projects. It also manages technical specifications, project schedules, and vendor relationships for equipment rebuilds, overhauls, tooling redesigns, and upgrades, while working with production, maintenance, die-shop teams, vendors, and other stakeholders to achieve productivity, cost, and budget goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering.
  • At least 4 years of engineering experience in metal stamping, heavy press-room operations, progressive/transfer die tooling, or high-volume manufacturing environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Knowledge of mechanical and hydraulic power presses, coil-feeding systems, progressive/transfer dies, and industrial automation/robotics.
  • Demonstrated experience with WCM, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Kaizen, and root-cause problem-solving methodologies, including 5-Why and EWO/QEWO.
  • In-depth understanding of OSHA press-safety regulations, Machine Guarding (1910.217), Lockout/Tagout (1910.147), and ergonomic risk reduction.

  • Manage technical specifications, project timelines, and vendor relationships for press rebuilds, major equipment overhauls, tooling redesigns, and automated upgrades.
  • Collaborate with the internal die shop, maintenance teams, and third-party vendors on bolster repairs, punch/die changes, and press lubrication and hydraulic-system optimization.
  • Analyze quality trends, including CAL PPM, FPY, and 1MIS/12MIS, and implement process-engineering solutions to eliminate stamping defects.
  • Lead scrap-reduction projects and integrate forced scrap and downtime coding to improve tracking and process control.
  • Drive safety-risk-reduction initiatives and conduct continuous Job Safety Risk Assessments across press setup, coil feeding, die changes, and scrap handling.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements for mechanical power presses, lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and overhead-crane safety.
  • Lead engineering capital projects, capacity expansion, and automation integration, such as robotic crimping, vision systems, and automated stackout or transfer.
