About The Position

Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Performance, our Operation Business Services is looking for a Senior Performance Analyst to support continuous improvement for the GO Rail and GO Bus Services and monitor the performance of the GO Transit rail system.

Requirements

• Completion of a degree in Business Administration, Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Economics, or related field – or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
• Demonstrate years of experience in conducting quantitative analysis and development of performance monitoring dashboards/reports.
• Demonstrate progressive experience and advanced skills in developing reports with Power BI, Power Query and DAX.
• Advanced skills in using SQL for querying and extracting data developed through years of experience in hands on use of SQL.
• Demonstrate experience in regularly using R or Python for data analysis, including data extraction, data wrangling.
• Knowledge of information systems to collect, extract data and present data in audience appropriate digestible format (example: creating and maintaining reports, digital dashboards).
• Analytical skills to investigate operating issues and recommend solutions.

Nice To Haves

• Certification in Power BI would be considered an asset.
• Prior work experience in Transit, Manufacturing or Commercial will be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

• Drive Strategic Insights: Design, develop, deliver, and maintain dashboards (Power BI), and reports that enhance Metrolinx understanding of trends related to various operational metrics such as timeliness, availability, customer experience etc. and produce actionable insights.
• Perform Advanced Analytics: Apply predictive modelling and statistical techniques to leading indicators on operational performance and trends.
• Forecasting & Planning: Support the organization in forecasting operational performance by factoring in future organizational changes and external factors.
• Operational Excellence: Investigate operating and performance challenges by liaising with stakeholders to determine root causes and recommend preventative actions.
• Project Leadership: Lead or contribute to assigned projects, including technology evaluations and refining production readiness requirements through maintaining comprehensive and up-to-date knowledge of internal and external data sources relevant to operations.
• Financial Stewardship: Analyze the impact of business initiatives and opportunities, within revenue/cost ratios and provide cost benefit analysis to uncover areas of performance improvements, efficiencies, and optimization within overall operations division
• Continuous Improvement: Understand key business needs and translates them into identifiable inefficiencies in both Rail and Bus operations, recommending streamlined solutions and monitoring benefits realization.
• Data Integrity: Understand data source systems and collaborate with external partners and I&IT to ensure data quality, refine collection processes, and support enterprise data governance, compliance and risk policies (e.g. Enterprise Data Governance).
• Resource Auditing: Track the efficiency of operational resources to define and implements data reporting and analysis best practices (e.g. user interface, visualizations, data integrity, test design, analysis, validation, and documentation) and recommend procedures for cost tracking.
