Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Payroll & Benefits, the Senior Payroll Administrator co manages the day-to-day processing of multiple payrolls. In addition, the successful candidate will act as a key contributor and resource for the consolidation of payrolls associated with the business transformation strategy and an enterprise wide HRIS implementation.

Requirements

  • Degree or diploma in a related field of study or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of extensive experience and knowledge of payroll processes & guidelines in a multi-provincial organization.
  • Minimum 2 year of in-depth experience using Ceridian Dayforce is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Payroll Compliance Practitioner (PCP) designation preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience will also be considered.
  • Experience implementing payroll systems with a focus on data conversion, integration, and testing is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee full-cycle payroll processing for salaried, hourly, and unionized employees, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with applicable legislation and company policies.
  • Review, validate, and approve bi-weekly or semi-monthly payroll, including earnings, deductions, and adjustments.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll records, including new hires, terminations, pay rate changes, status updates, and organizational transfers.
  • Assist in the calculation and process of complex payroll transactions such as bonuses, commissions, retroactive pay, severance, and final payments.
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial regulations, including tax filings, remittances, and year-end reporting (e.g., T4s, ROEs).
  • Act as subject matter expert for payroll-related inquiries, providing guidance to employees, managers, and HR.
  • Reconcile payroll registers, general ledger accounts, and benefit deductions; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Lead or support payroll audits (internal and external), ensuring documentation and controls are in place.
  • Develop, document, and improve payroll processes, procedures, and internal controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with HR, Finance, and external stakeholders to ensure alignment on compensation, benefits, and reporting requirements.
  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior payroll team members; review work for accuracy and completeness.
  • Participate in payroll system implementations, upgrades, and testing (e.g., UAT), including identifying opportunities for automation.
  • Generate and analyze payroll and benefits reports to support business decisions and compliance requirements.
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, changes, and terminations, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Act as the primary liaison with benefits providers, resolving discrepancies and addressing employee inquiries.
  • Reconcile benefit invoices and ensure alignment with payroll deductions and employer contributions.
  • Support annual benefits renewals, audits, and reporting requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation and company policies related to benefits administration.
  • Assist in the communication of benefits programs to employees and support education initiatives.
