About The Position

The Senior Operations Coordinator – Revenue Cycle (Emergency Department) serves in a senior supervisory capacity, overseeing staff and daily revenue cycle operations supporting Emergency Department services. This role is responsible for supervising staff performance, coordinating high‑volume workflows, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and payer regulations, and supporting accurate and timely reimbursement for ED encounters. The position functions as first line supervision under the general direction of Revenue Cycle leadership and works closely with Emergency Department leadership and clinical teams.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage performance in a fast‑paced ED Revenue Cycle environment
  • Working knowledge of Emergency Department workflows, payer requirements, and reimbursement methodologies
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with revenue cycle systems, reporting tools, and Microsoft Office
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a high‑acuity, regulated healthcare setting

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Healthcare Administration, Finance, or a related field preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct supervision to assigned ED Revenue Cycle staff, including scheduling, daily work assignment, productivity monitoring, and performance oversight
  • Establishes performance expectations related to timeliness, accuracy, compliance, and customer service
  • Provides ongoing coaching, mentoring, and corrective feedback; participates in performance evaluations and disciplinary processes in accordance with Ellis Hospital HR policies
  • Assists with recruitment, onboarding, training, and competency development of ED Revenue Cycle staff
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for staff concerns, complex ED accounts, and workflow issues
  • Oversees day‑to‑day Revenue Cycle activities supporting Emergency Department encounters, including registration support, insurance verification, charge capture coordination, billing, follow‑up, and account resolution
  • Ensures staff compliance with Ellis Hospital policies, payer requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations (including CMS, NYSDOH, EMTALA, and HIPAA requirements impacting ED services)
  • Monitors ED account workflows, work queues, and aging to support timely billing and cash flow
  • Addresses operational challenges related to high‑volume, fast‑paced ED workflows and after‑hours coverage
  • Identifies issues that may impact reimbursement, regulatory compliance, or patient experience and implements corrective actions
  • Maintains and enforces standard operating procedures (SOPs) specific to Emergency Department Revenue Cycle workflows.
  • Monitors key ED Revenue Cycle metrics such as registration accuracy, charge lag, denial trends, and A/R aging
  • Participates in audits, quality assurance activities, and performance improvement initiatives related to Emergency Department billing and collections
