Senior Microsoft365 SharePoint Engineer
About The Position
We are seeking an engineer with extensive experience in Microsoft 365 and SharePoint to work in a complex and growing environment with a talented Infrastructure team. The Senior Microsoft 365 & SharePoint Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, administration, security, and continuous improvement of the organization's Microsoft 365 collaboration platform. This includes SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive for Business, Power Platform, Exchange Online, Microsoft Entra ID, and related Microsoft cloud technologies. Reporting to the Sr. Director Infrastructure, this role serves as the technical lead for Microsoft 365 services, ensuring the platform is secure, reliable, scalable, and aligned with institutional business objectives. The position provides advanced engineering expertise, develops governance standards, supports automation initiatives, and partners with departments to modernize business processes using Microsoft technologies. This role is focused on platform engineering, solution architecture, operational excellence, and user enablement within a complex enterprise environment. This is a full-time hybrid role with a minimum of two required days per week at Excelsior's home office of 7 Columbia Circle, Albany, NY, with the remainder of the days worked from home.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required. Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Five (5) or more years of experience administering Microsoft 365 in an enterprise environment.
- Three (3) or more years of SharePoint Online administration and solution development.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Exchange Online, Teams administration, and OneDrive.
- Experience implementing Microsoft governance and security controls.
- Strong understanding of Microsoft 365 architecture and cloud services.
- Demonstrated expertise in SharePoint Online administration and information architecture.
- Experience designing enterprise collaboration and document management solutions.
- Knowledge of identity management, authentication, and access control.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong customer service orientation and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities
- Administer Microsoft 365 services, including SharePoint Online, Teams, Exchange Online, OneDrive, Entra ID, and related platforms.
- Manage conditional access, privileged access, RBAC, MFA, access reviews, group governance, licensing, policies, and service health.
- Monitor availability, security, performance, updates, feature releases, and operational issues across Microsoft 365.
- Design and maintain SharePoint Online sites, intranet solutions, information architecture, taxonomy, metadata, and content governance standards.
- Build document, records management, collaboration, and migration solutions in partnership with business units.
- Establish Teams lifecycle, naming, guest access, external sharing, ownership, sprawl control, and retention practices.
- Create dashboards, reports, reusable templates, workflows, documentation, and automation to reduce manual processes.
- Implement Microsoft Purview, retention, DLP, sensitivity labels, information protection, and data governance policies.
- Support identity governance, least-privilege access, security audits, risk assessments, regulatory compliance, and M365 governance standards.
- Serve as senior technical escalation for Microsoft 365, SharePoint, and Teams issues.
- Mentor IT staff and deliver knowledge articles, technical documentation, user guidance, training, and workshops.
- Maintain architecture diagrams, configuration documentation, operational procedures, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans.
- Evaluate emerging Microsoft technologies, roadmap updates, licensing changes, security recommendations, certifications, and professional development opportunities.
