About The Position

Perkins&Will Seattle is seeking a Senior Medical Planner with 15+ years of experience leading the planning and design of complex healthcare environments across all project phases. This role requires deep expertise in medical architecture, clinical operations, and master planning, with a proven ability to partner with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-performing, future-focused healthcare solutions aligned with long-term goals and Living Design principles.

Requirements

  • Professional degree in architecture, or related discipline
  • Minimum 10-15+ years of architectural experience in healthcare facilities planning. Primary emphasis on healthcare master planning, conceptual design, and proven front-end client interface
  • Solid understanding of healthcare project delivery
  • Professional architectural license
  • Advanced knowledge of 2D/3D production software
  • Advanced Revit
  • Conceptual modeling tools such as Rhino and Grasshopper
  • Microsoft Office / Adobe Suite
  • Visualization tools such as Enscape and VRay
  • Presentation tools such as InDesign and Photoshop
  • LEED GA or within 6 months of hire
  • Professional Accreditation in one area of Living Design that interests you: LEED AP with Specialty, BREEAM AP, WELL AP, SITES AP, Passive House Institute Certified Passive House Consultant/Designer CPHC/CPHD, or ILFI Living Future Accreditation

Responsibilities

  • Leading all phases of the design process with a high level of proficiency and expertise while adhering to firm and project goals and standards of excellence in design, execution, and living design.
  • Providing master planning, design, and related medical architecture expertise.
  • Collaborating with members of the healthcare group to design a project that meets the firm’s commitment to design, quality, schedules, client needs, financial budget, and timetable.
  • Partnering with client in determining goals and objectives of the healthcare facility through a clear programming process.
  • Developing healthcare operational volume projections and understanding hospital operations.
  • Managing production of an architectural program for clients.
  • Providing leadership in order to carry out the goals and objectives of the project and communicates with team members in a timely manner.
  • Participating in marketing proposals and interviews.
  • Executing alternate design solutions for consideration based on client’s long-range plan during the master planning and design phases.
  • Supporting team members with schematic design phase and is responsible for all functional aspects of the proposed solutions.
  • Developing room and departmental layouts and assists in the selection of building systems.
  • Overseeing the inclusion of program requirements during the construction document phase.
  • Working directly with senior designer to size and mass the building.
  • Evaluating existing facilities.
  • Managing, developing, and facilitating data collection through interviews, focus groups, end-user surveys, observation, and post occupancy evaluation.
  • Reviewing work for accuracy, omissions, legibility, and for document compliance in accordance with the Project Delivery Manual.
  • Participating and collaborating in design reviews, charettes, and pin-ups.
  • Demonstrating strong and effective communication and direction which inspires high team performance.
  • Mentoring staff.
  • Coordinating effectively with partners and consultants.
