About The Position

ASML is seeking a Mechatronics / Robotics Design Engineer for its development location in Wilton, Connecticut. The engineer specifies, designs, develops, realizes, integrates, and tests modules and tools as part of a multidisciplinary team, working closely with cross-functional partners and suppliers. The role focuses on mechatronics and control systems for advanced lithography-tool modules, including precision handling of delicate parts, product and system integration, and software functionality. It requires direct experience designing and testing mechatronic and control systems, preferably with industrial robotics integration. The engineer provides discipline-specific expertise throughout the product life cycle, from concept feasibility and new product introduction to product sustainment and customer-facing problem resolution. Scope and leadership expectations increase with job grade, ranging from executing defined engineering work to leading technical scope, realizing complex modules, guiding roadmaps, and coordinating teams across complex designs to achieve system-level integration and delivery. The position is based on-site, with a flexible arrangement allowing remote work up to two days per week. It may involve domestic or international travel and potential exposure to strong magnetic fields, high voltage, and currents. Access to controlled technology under the U.S. Export Administration Regulations is required. Candidates must be legally authorized to access that technology before beginning work; business needs may require ASML to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a relevant technical field.
  • At least 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Direct experience in the design and testing of mechatronic systems and control systems.
  • Ability to identify and manage traceable requirements, develop specifications, and align interfaces.
  • Ability to develop engineering solutions and make technical tradeoffs within system or module constraints.
  • Ability to plan and execute verification and validation and support system or product integration.
  • Strong technical writing and English communication skills, including presenting results supported by statistical evidence to audiences with varied technical backgrounds.
  • Ability to derive conclusions from analyses and make practical recommendations.
  • Ability to deliver results, manage priorities and tradeoffs, and work across stakeholders and dependencies.
  • Ability to seek and use feedback, adapt behavior, and collaborate effectively in complex or high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to respect and integrate diverse perspectives and working styles.
  • Legal authorization to access controlled technology before beginning work.
  • Ability to meet the stated physical demands, including occasionally lifting or moving up to 20 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Ph.D. in a relevant technical field.
  • Experience with industrial robotics integration.
  • Mechatronics engineering background or specialization in robotics or a closely related field.
  • Experience with PID controllers, linear and nonlinear calibrations, and flexible dynamics.
  • Experience with magnetic linear actuators and magnetic levitation systems.
  • Basic experience with predictive modeling of mechatronics behavior using MATLAB/SIMULINK or similar tools, including first-principles engineering equations and other methods for control-system simulation and implementation.
  • Knowledge of classical and digital control theory, including frequency-domain analysis, Nyquist and Bode plots, velocity-acceleration-jerk, feedback and feedforward, dynamics, gain and phase, transfer functions, and continuous or discrete feedback control and real-time controls.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary projects such as imaging or optical systems, semiconductors, or lithography.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, analyze, document, and manage requirements with traceability, and coordinate verification criteria.
  • Conduct research and feasibility studies, document findings, and turn them into recommendations, tradeoffs, and decision inputs.
  • Develop engineering concepts and solutions, make technical choices, and resolve issues while meeting functionality, performance, cost, and compliance needs.
  • Define and communicate specifications and high-level designs, align interfaces, and support reviews and approvals.
  • Support system or product integration by coordinating dependencies and applying configuration management.
  • Define and execute validation and test approaches, improve methods and procedures, and ensure qualification evidence supports release readiness.
  • Estimate effort, plan and track work, manage risks and dependencies, and deliver work packages or projects to agreed quality and timelines.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and share knowledge through coaching and mentoring as applicable.
  • Follow EHS policies and identify and mitigate safety risks.
  • As scope and job grade require, own complex technical work, coordinate cross-functional efforts, and lead program-level outcomes.

Benefits

  • Medical insurance for employees and their families.
  • Dental insurance for employees and their families.
  • Vision insurance for employees and their families.
  • Basic life insurance for employees and their families.
  • Participation in the company 401(k) plan.
  • Eight hours of vacation leave per month.
